Nice Landscaping Trees and Property Line Issues

Landscaping trees that grow on or near property lines can be quite tricky when it comes to trimming or removal. This scenario can become a little more complicated when it comes to variations in law between states and even between counties or parishes within those states. The primary legal overture, however, appears to be that disagreements regarding trees on property lines are a civil issue and should be handled as such.

Although specifics may vary between locales, most available information suggests that the property upon which a tree's trunk sits designates the rightful owner of the tree. However, there are considerations for non-owners as well. Consider that tree branches, including their blooms or fruits, that overhang the property of a neighbor not legally designated as the tree's owner may be trimmed by the non-owner for several reasons. Primarily, a non-owner has the legal right to protect his or her property from any damage that may be incurred from a tree, whether on the ground or within property airspace. This may include such things as weakened limbs that may collapse or heavy limbs that overhang their residence, vehicles, or power lines. These can easily become safety issues, costly financial woes, or legal disputes between the most agreeable of neighbors.

Additionally, most available information also suggests that a non-owner has the right to trim or remove overhanging branches if their presence is deemed a nuisance. For instance, an overhanging branch that hinders the light from a street light may be considered such. In Austin, Texas, contact an highly experienced Austin tree trimming professional to assist you with removing problematic limbs while still maintaining the integrity of the tree.

It is recommended that neighbors work together to determine what courses of action may be taken to amicably resolve property line issues. Unfortunately, however, remaining disputes or lack of resolution may require legal intervention. This may be especially true if the trunk of a tree actually divides properties. In most legal instances, this makes all owners, whose properties are divided by the tree, players in a perplexing and sometimes very complicated legal situation. This makes it important to have at least a rudimentary understanding of the usual legal perspective on the issue.

If you attempt to achieve resolution, but find that a neighbor is obstinate regarding the issue, it is likely in your best interest to seek legal intervention before taking any action on a tree. After all, it is better to have the legal backing and assurances on your side before proceeding with action than to later learn your actions may have been contrary to state or local policies regarding the matter.

There are preventative measures that can be taken to avoid such issues in the future. For instance, a new homeowner whose landscape is not yet developed may choose to plant trees in locations that will not greatly impact neighboring properties. Consider the tree species you'd like to plant on your property and research their average growth. This includes the span of the canopy, the trunk circumference, and the expansion of the roots underground. Also, consider how the roots of trees near property lines may impact you legally should disease, such as Austin oak wilt, become an issue, as the disease may impact a neighbor's tree, too, if the roots are intertwined.

If questions remain after researching the issue, consult the expertise of an Austin tree care company. They can likely assist you with determining whether or not the species you desire to plant, as well as where you'd like to plant them on your property, will be troublesome in the future.

About Gardening A Hobby For All Ages

Gardening is a pastime that can be enjoyed by very young children, mums and dads, enthusiastic vegetable growers, those who enjoy competition or those who just like to get outside and makes their gardens nice places to be. No two gardens are alike as everyone has their own preferences, style and requirements. For households with small children an area for play will almost always be needed while they are growing up. Other practical considerations become part of the equation if access routes are required to cater for those who need safe walkways or for the siting of vegetable patches if the garden is to help with the food bill.

One beauty of gardening is that it doesn't make too many demands in terms of tools and technology Of course there are endless gadgets and machinery choices available for purchase, but often these are not required and a gardener has the option of using tried and tested tools like rakes, spades, push mowers and pruning shears if they wish. And of course many homes in the UK complete with a gardening zone, sometimes fully developed and sometimes merely just a blank canvas waiting for someone's passion to take over and transform the space. Even homes in apartment blocks sometimes have access to rooftop gardens or perhaps the space to create a small garden on a balcony or, as mentioned already, even in window boxes. Also there is the opportunity to hire an allotment from a local authority. This option is very cost effective as the typical price of a 12 month lease varies from around 30 to as low as 5 depending on where you live. There can be very few hobbies that offer such opportunity and at an affordable range of costs.

If a love of gardening is developed at a young age, then it can often become a hobby for life. The term Kindergarten was coined in the early nineteenth century. "Children's garden" is the direct translation of the term and was used at the time to describe a modern way of teaching young children that originated in Hungary, evolved into something more popular in Germany and ended up becoming an institution in the USA. The idea was to provide an environment where children could develop by playing and experiencing a wide range of situations, which often meant being outside. In fact the benefits of gardens in assisting children's education are still being understood and a recent study by the Royal Horticultural Society found that gardening can "make children happier". The study also discovered all manner of additional positive effects such as increased resilience, increased confidence plus gardening also encouraged the children to lead healthier lives.

Introducing children to gardening can take many forms from growing some sweet peas in a pot or scattering some flower seeds, through to laying out a veg patch with potatoes and carrots or planting up a small border with cottage garden flowers.

When you consider why people take up gardening all kinds of reasons spring to mind. Of course creating something beautiful and feeling that sense of achievement and satisfaction is wonderful, but also the thought of creating new life from something as simple as a seed is a powerful encouragement. Community spirit is also alive and well in the gardening community, with local interest groups found in most towns and cities in the UK, plus a huge bank of knowledge and help accessible via the internet.

The current love of gardening in the UK is wide spread and crosses all age boundaries. Newspapers dedicate regular weekly columns or even whole supplements to gardeners, evidence of a hobby whose popularity is thriving. For getting outside, spending time with friends and giving your body a spell of useful exercise, gardening really is hard to beat.

The Best Fire Resistant Curtains

We take a lot of time to secure our homes, to protect our families and to protect ourselves. One way we can improve our home but also protect everyone and thing we love, is to invest in fire resistant curtains. With children in the home, elderly loved ones or smokers, this may be an option to consider. Having a few extra seconds or even minutes, to put out a fire can save lives and property.

The way the fire resistant curtains work is as follows. When a fire starts to burn on the material, the material releases certain chemicals that react to the retardant. The retardant mixes with these chemicals and slows the burning rate drastically down. The same process happens when you use fire retardant sprays as well.

There are two different ways of fireproofing your drapery. You can use a fire retardant spray or you can buy the curtains with the resistant built in. Flame resistant curtains can be substantially more expensive than regular curtains or retardant sprays, but they are more convenient, since you don't have to constantly reapply chemicals.

Fire resistant curtains install like regular ones. They are decorative, durable, fade resistant, and they resist mold and bacteria. As an added bonus fire resistant curtains are also sound absorbing which is great for a home with children. These curtains can usually be found in auditoriums, movies theaters, institutions, conference rooms, and more.

Fire resistant curtains are usually made from a tight weave with a heavy weight, making them take longer to burn. Lighter fabrics with loose airy material, will ignite more readily. These materials aid the fire alarm and smoke detectors by slowing a fire down.

If you decide not to go with fire resistant curtains, you can purchase fire retardant chemical spray, which comes from various companies on the internet. The spray works as a shield against fire and is usually odorless, colorless and non-toxic. It can be used on everything from carpeting, to bedding, upholstery and even your existing drapery. Usage on drapery depends on what material they are made from. You need to check the manufactures instructions before using them on your existing curtains. Usually if you can place a drop of water on your fabric and it rolls off or sits on the surface, it's a good candidate for flame retardant spray. Keep in mind that although this is a great option, you will need to reapply the spray every time you wash anything you sprayed it on.

Lastly research shows that "Fire spreads 1100% in the first 4 minutes and heat rises at 90 feet per second or approximately 60 mph". Research also states that "approximately 90% of fire fatalities are in the home and 90% of the fatalities occur during the sleeping hours 10pm to 6am". Fire resistant curtains may cost more, but they bring additional protection and peace of mind to your home.

Lovely Why Everybody Will Want an Electric Fireplace in their Residence

Electric powered fireboxes are superior to standard fireplaces in virtually every way. An electric fireplace is environmentally friendly. These fireplaces are also significantly extra effortless.

The most crucial facet of an electrical fire issafety. In short: there's actually nothing a regular fireplace can do that an electric fire cannot do, but an electric hearth is safer, easier, and a lot more reasonably priced.Inside the future, I am convinced, all fireplaces will go "green" and go electrical. Now, I would like to let you know that I love traditional, real fireplaces. I have absolutely nothing against them.

Actually, some of my fondest memories revolve around a warm family fire. And no fire is so unattractive that it can't be immediately spruced up with a great fireplace mantel. But electrical fireplaces, if I may possibly be frank, are merely superior to standard fireplaces in most each way.Initial of all, articial fireplaces need to not be confused with those infamously tacky "video fireplaces".

Unlike video fireplaces, these modern appliances actually emit real heat. An electrically powered fireplace scene serves as a secondary heater, or even a primary heater in average sized rooms. When it comes down to it, man-made fireplace scenes are just as capable of proliferating heat as a true, standard fireplace. And though it does not look very true from up close, from a fair distance (perhaps five yards away) it looks just like a actual, roaring fireplace.Artifical fireplaces, unlike their traditional smoke-spewing counterparts, are very friendly towards the environment. Mainly because it runs on electricity, it directly releases ZERO carbon emissions, and its carbon imprint is significantly less than that of a genuine fireplace.

It will not produce smoke, which means that you don't should worry about inhaling harmful airborne agents and vapors, and an artificial fireplace scene is not going to spew smoke into the outside air either. An electric powered fireplace scene also protects our natural resources, due to the fact it does not burn wood or coal as fuel.Synthetic fireboxes are much, a lot a lot more practical than conventional fireplaces. They call for a incredibly basic installation, and following that, you've incredibly little to concern yourself with. No authentic cleaning is required, but it's definitely not a bad concept to dust off the screen once in a though, within the same way that you would clear a personal computer monitor or a window. Additionally, with an electrical fireplace scene, you don't have to worry about the prior preparation a usual hearth entails. Maybe you are able to see it now: you come household right after work and merely flip a switch, and within moments you get pleasure from the beauty and comfortable heat of a "truly false" roaring fireplace.

Possibly my favorite part is this: with an man-made fireplace, you will not must clear up that ashy mess the following day!An electrically powered fireplace is also remarkably practical for people who live in apartments or homes that do not have chimneys. With this innovation it is achievable to appreciate the comfort and visual drama of a excellent fire, devoid of needing to believe about whether your house is correctly ventilated, or has a chimney to vent out the smoke and fumes.

These man-made hearth scenes have the added benefit of ultimately keeping funds in your pockets: should you buy an artificial fireplace, you will not ever ought to concern your self with buying pricey and fast-burning fuels like firewood and coal. After you install the firebox, the only bill you'll ought to pay is your electric powered bill. You do not even ought to concern yourself with paying for the gas that usual fireplaces call for. And once again, since you do not ought to clear an electrical fire scene, you will not should fork over the cash to pay for cleaning supplies. In all likelihood, nevertheless, the ideal and most important feature of man-made fireplaces is their safety value. Because there is no "real" fire, there may be no true danger.

There exists no need to have for you to sit and monitor your fire for dangers, mainly because there's no way an man-made hearth can get out of control. You won't even ought to concern yourself with furniture, decorations and other items that you just wish to place near your synthetic fireplace: The worst thing that may happen to any item you set close to the fireplace is that the item will turn out to be "toasty warm". Devoid of a authentic fireplace, there exists no burning, no unnecessary inconvenience, and no danger! In brief: basically put, there may be a veritable treasure trove of advantages to electric fire scenes that real fireplaces basically don't supply, but an electrical hearth can do every thing that a classic fireplace can do , only much better.

Inspirational Supervisors and the PITS - Proper Interviewing Techniques and Strategies

In this supervisors' core training white paper, we deal with a red hot issue often over looked by Human Resources (HR) professionals; the subject of proper interviewing techniques. Given the level of sophistication of today's workers, companies can ill afford not to cover this subject in great detail with those who conduct interviews for them.

Supervisors' Will be Held Liable

Supervisors must attend core training sessions where they learn the questions they can and cannot ask during an interview. And since they are representatives of the company, everything they say can, and probably will be used against them in a court of law. One of the great dangers is- supervisors making promises to prospective employees, out of earshot of the HR department, which the company did not authorize, and therefore cannot keep. For example, the supervisor says "you've already got the job-just go to HR and get a start date."

The Hidden Danger

One of the hidden dangers here is the HR department has not been able to complete a due diligence background check with includes, but is not limited to, a check and verification of Social Security Numbers, a drivers license check, credit check, and criminal history background check- to name a few. There are grave consequences if a company fails to conduct a background check and a criminal act is committed on their premises. Supervisors must be taught to respect the hiring process and not get ahead of HR by making promises the company simply cannot keep.

Train on Techniques

Supervisors can and must be taught how to properly conduct interviews of perspective employees. Today's workers are coming to the interview knowing the questions the supervisor can and cannot ask. For example you cannot ask an interviewee if they are married. This is an illegal question, prohibited by law, which could get your company sued. Another line of questioning prohibited by law is asking an interviewee about a disability. These are but two of a long list of questions you must use caution, and be keenly aware of, when conducting interviews.

Therefore, your supervisors must be trained on how to initiate, conduct, and properly end the interview.

Remain On Point Throughout

Where many supervisors (who are company representatives) drop the ball is when, for example, the interviewee asks to use the restroom facilities and, while walking the person back, the supervisor starts to ask a line of personal questions. Always remember unless and until the person is hired, they are still in the interviewing process. This means never ask questions you cannot ask. The bottom line rule of thumb is; if it is not job related; don't ask the question- period.

Summary

Given the level of sophistication of today's workers, companies can ill afford not to cover the subject of proper interviewing techniques and strategies (in great detail) with supervisors conducting interviews for the company. Your supervisor core training must include the questions supervisors are prohibited from asking. The Human resources department must make this core training a top priority.

Nice The Job Of A Landscape Photographer

The job of a landscape photographer is to record a scene. Yet, photographers often fail to capture what it felt like to be actually at a scene.

A good landscape photographer arrives at a scene early, and waits for the scene to unfold. Waiting patiently for changing colours and changing mood, which all go along with the change of the weather.

Vital to all of this is light - natural light and all the elements it brings to a scene.

To be able to use light correctly and creatively we first must understand it. Once we understand it we can use it to our advantage in creating beautifully, dramatic landscape images.

There are three basic qualities of light: intensity, direction and colour.

Intensity: refers to the strength of light. If the sun is high in the sky, light can be harsh and too strong. Cloudy days bring soft and defused light.

Direction: this refers to light placement. There are three categories of light placement: front, back and side-lighting. Side lighting produces more texture between light and shade.

Colour: the colour of sunlight varies depending upon conditions and time of day. If the sun shines at the beginning or the end of the day, the colour of the light will be much warmer, and will lead to a much more dramatic scene.

While all three are different qualities of light, they all have another important factor in common - time of day.  Choosing the correct time of day is a foremost in capturing a scene at its best.  The intensity of light brings out different colours in a landscape image. Colours in landscape  photography depend on light available and also what time you shoot a scene, and where you place your camera.

Early morning shots will cast a red hue in your images. This only lasts a few minutes after sunrise. As the morning progresses the red hue turns to yellow. This normally lasts while the sun is low in the sky. Long shadows are cast along a scene during these early hours.  These can add mood to an image. Come mid-day the sun is high in the sky. The shadows are gone. This is the best time of the day for landscape photographers.

As the day turns to evening and the sun gradually falls in the sky, the sun casts stronger colours similar to  morning. Sunset can be just as exciting as sunrise.

Time and light come hand in hand. Using both together will most certainly bring out the best in your landscape photographs. We ourselves decide what direction we use, do we use the sun at our backs, or is it better to use it at our side?  I prefer side-lighting or facing the sun.

If you're unsure go to a scene and take a few images. Mark the ground so you can place the camera in the exact same spot and return a few hours later. Return to the scene several times and take notes of light direction. Record the different exposures you take your images. Compare the shots from the different times of day, and the answer will unfold in front of you.

Understanding natural light develops your ability to create better images. You'll then start to see the beauty of light and colours in a new and exciting way.

Nice Measure Up to a Patio Dining Set

For the adult entertainer in you, there's no talk of card tables and cheap lawn chairs when it comes to an outdoor gathering. You have progressed beyond the college kegger days and leave the Christmas lights just for the winter months. You also know that success hinges on buying just the right patio dining set. These days, outdoor and indoor dining sets have been playing around with different table and chair heights, the result of which changes the feel and formality of any occasion.

Normal Height

The average dining and writing table, the kind build for basically as long as tables have been around, in Western Europe at least all measure around 28 to 30 inches high. The average height for many a table is exactly 29 inches. The chairs then sit proportionate, with typical seats measuring 11" to 13" lower. The normal allowance for leg room is about 24 inches, and 12 inches of that should be reserved for knee clearance.

High Tables

Recently, the furniture world has embraced the form of the elegant high dining table, which has in turn influenced many a patio dining set. Also known as gathering height and balcony tables, these are raised about half a foot higher than typical tables, or on average 36" high. Chair seats typically measure in at 26 inches, which means more leg room than normal height tables. This unique realm is in between dining table and bar height, so it's not uncomfortably high, but noticeably so. The chairs of a high dining set are specifically designed for convenience, and are supposedly easier to get into and out of than are barstools. There are even some chairs which swivel to accommodate. The resulting feeling can either be more formal than a normal table, or more akin to bar-side dining, depending on the surrounding ambience of the décor and the occasion itself. The high patio dining set also gives a more modern look, but is useful in certain spots where a good view is to be enjoyed, as over a tall fence or wall. It would not however be ideal in areas that are already adequately elevated, like roof decks and could give users the adverse effect of feeling too high up. For indoors, balcony tables look great in cathedral ceiling and loft spaces.

Low Tables

The low patio dining set is relatively modern trend in furniture as well. Also called chat, gathering and conversation groupings, these are the type of patio dining set you would see at elite clubs and lounges.

They are vaguely reminiscent of Asian style low seating, but not so low that you have to sit on your knees atop a pillow. These setups are reserved for more casual occasions, such as brunch, drinks, or as the name would imply, chatting. However, they are not necessarily for everyone. Some people with long legs might have trouble fitting underneath the table, while those with back ailments might find it uncomfortable to sit so low to the ground. Also, as the opposite of the high patio dining set, the gathering set is perfect for roof balconies, but can tend to feel dwarfed when surrounded by noticeably taller accompanying furniture and walls.

To buy the right patio dining set, you need to consider two major factors. The one thing to ask yourself is where it's going to go. Exactly what amount of space there is, along with whether it will be placed inside, outside, on a roof, etc. will help determine what is needed. The second consideration is how it will match your décor and the ambience you want to imbue upon your guests. For instance, if most of your other furniture is traditional, you may want to go with a traditional height table. Do your friends prefer formal sit-down dinners, sophisticated soirees or drinks and mingling? In the end, there is no right thing to buy. It hinges upon personal preference along with individual situations.

New The American Pool Cue

So, what makes a cue an American pool cue? Well for a start the cues used in the game of American pool are a different style and weight to English cues. The game of American pool is played on larger tables and with larger and heavier balls. Correspondingly the cues have a bigger tip and are slightly heavier to reflect this. Typically the tips of American pool cues are between 11 and 13 millimetres in diameter to give a better "grip" on the larger cue ball, and are around 20-22 ounces in weight instead of the lighter English pool cues which are somewhere around 17 - 19 ounces in weight.

Another subtle difference is in the style of play in the American game. American pool players often like to wrap their finger around the cue when playing a shot so this has led to cue shafts that are parallel or the same diameter for the first couple of feet to give a more comfortable grip on the cue whereas the English style of playing gives rise to a slightly tapered shaft all the way down the cue.

And then of course being American the decoration on the cues is a lot more flamboyant. They tend to have what they call linen wraps around the butt end of the cue which are basically linen thread tightly would around the cue butt and glued in place which gives a very good grip to the cue. These are brightly colored and make for stunning looking cues and decorations on the grip. The downside is that on the cheaper cues the wrap can unravel, making the cue look very tatty.

An American pool cue made by the great cue makers like Balabushka are collectible items these days fetching many thousands of dollars, so check who made your cue before you toss it aside and get a new one.

Don't forget to check your oxygen. Many Koi fish owners don't realize how important maintaining the proper level of dissolved oxygen in their pond really is. They also don't realize how factors can affect the oxygen level. Simple aeration can help make this easier than it may sound.

Carefully watching the oxygen level is necessary for several reasons. Certainly we know the fish need good oxygenated water. Stagnant water is certainly unhealthy. But proper oxygen levels are also necessary for the health of any vegetation you have in the pond and is critical to the chemical processes that go on continually. Every pond has its own oxygen demand. This is based on the number and size of fish you have, the amount of vegetation in the pond and the amount of plant decomposition that is going on.

The water itself absorbs oxygen differently whether it is warm or cool, moving or standing. The salinity of the water also affects its absorption capability but since our ponds are freshwater ponds we don't really have to worry about salinity.

It is during the warm months that Koi pond aeration becomes so important. Be sure to check the oxygen level frequently when it gets very hot. Keep the level at least between 5.0 and 5.5 mg per liter.

It is important to keep the water moving. Water that is moving has a much higher oxygen absorption rate. Oxygen levels can drop quickly in water that is just standing. Using a fountain or waterfall will help a great deal.

Algae growth is another thing to watch. Don't let it get out of hand. During the day algae produces oxygen which is good, but at night it will deplete the oxygen. Too much algae will make it more difficult to control the oxygen levels.

Pick the coolest part of the day to feed your fish. When koi fish are feeding their respiration rate increases making them utilize more oxygen. Feeding them in the heat of the day, when the temperature of the water is high and oxygen levels already lower, will only make matters worse. Oxygen levels can drop very quickly in these circumstances.

Always have good pond aeration. If you are putting in a new pond, plan for good water circulation from the start. For an existing, pond think about adding fountains or other water features that will improve the overall water circulation.

Nice How to Build a Safe Outdoor Fireplace

The size of your outdoor fireplace depends on your choice and the size of the area where you want to place the fireplace. In addition, the look of the outdoor fireplace should go along with your budget. In order to have a perfect outdoor fireplace, it is important to have a definite plan before starting the project. Aside from your own preference, you must also consider the safety of your family. Most people go for chimney-type fireplace for safety and convenience as it allow good ventilation compared to the fire pit-type. In addition, chimney-type is more convenient as prevents too much smoke. Elevated fire pits can also have more possible damage and injuries.

You need to consider certain aspects before having an outdoor fireplace. The most important thing you must remember is the safety of your property, as well as your family when building an outdoor fireplace. In addition, remember that size matters and in planning for your outdoor fireplace, make sure to inspect the size of the fire section and then its height. Consider a bigger firebox in order to have convenience in buying wood. A good outdoor fireplace burns more efficiently and cleanly compared to fire pit type.

Most of the time, fireplaces that are made from commercial clay, copper or sheet steel do not have the strength, security and durability of cast iron or aluminum fireplaces. You can purchase sheet metal in a cheaper price because they are more considered as a disposable kind due to rust. If you are considering metal sheets, make sure to inspect the thickness or gauge of the metal. If you find fireplaces that include sheet metal necks, you must check if there are available replacement parts provided by the manufacturer.

If you choose cast iron material for your fireplace, remember that you need to maintain it regularly to avoid rusting. Maintaining a cast iron fireplace may require hard work but it will ensure its good condition. Occasional painting is also recommended to hinder rusting and make sure to use high temperature paint in painting cast iron as it is exposed to high heat. You can also go for copper fireplace for a more attractive look but you have to consider the fact that copper may turn to green and corrode after a long time.

An outdoor fireplace made from cast aluminum is a popular choice because of its longer lifespan. In addition, cast aluminum is more durable and does not need to be maintained regularly. It weighs lighter than cast iron, making it easy to carry and it does not corrode.

You also have a choice to have a fireplace outdoors made from clay. However, remember that clay fireplaces can fall down, which is not a pretty picture. If you go for clay outdoor fireplace, make sure not to put the fireplace on a deck made of wood or any surface that can be damaged easily by heat. It is best to place the clay fireplace on a tile or cement. Remember to be careful if you decide on having a clay outdoor fireplace. Make sure to use a fireplace screen or a spark arrestor for safety purposes. Though a clay fireplace is more affordable than cast iron or aluminum, it has a shorter lifespan and is less durable.

About Steps to a Safe Electric Fireplace Heater in a Corner

An electric fireplace heater is a device of comfort. During the days and nights of the winter season, it can provide you warmth and convenience to bear the coldness. Nevertheless, it cannot be ignored that it can also cause some accidents.

Going back to the basics of electric fireplaces, they do not use logs to generate heat. The can either be a wall mount or a free standing fireplace that can be positioned in corner of a room.

They can be purchased from charmglow, dimplex and from many other fireplace companies both online and offline. There are those that can be bought in cheap prices and there are also others that are expensive. Aside from the whole fireplace unit, there are also inserts that can be bought such as electric fireplace logs. Reading product reviews would be a great in choosing which among all of those available is the best that you can get.

However, the fact that they do not use a single log does not exempt them from being a possible cause of home accidents. Therefore, you must take actions that will make the use of them safe without blocking their effectiveness.

If you have a modern electric fireplace heater, here are some precautionary steps that you should implement to ensure the safety in your home. They may take some time and work to implement, but your welfare and that of your family is at risk here so they are all worth it.

Place objects away from the fireplace - This is especially applicable to flammable items. Though electric fireplaces do not produce embers or sparks, they can still potentially cause a fire. A short-circuit can already start it so objects must be placed in a safe distance from them.
Practice electrical precautions - Electric fireplaces, as the name implies, is run by electricity. Therefore, safety measures to electric devices must also be applied to them. Those safety measures include proper removing of their plug from the power outlet when not in used, keeping liquids away from them and making sure that there is no frayed wiring before using them.
Educate your family about the safe use of the heater - As modern as an electric fireplace is, it cannot seal the heat it generates and so it can cause burns if touched. Teach your family how to properly deal with it to avoid burns and other accidents such as fire. You should take extra consideration teaching the children. Explain to them well the hazards of improper use of the heater. For additional protection, you can put a firescreen on the front of the electric fireplace.

Adorable Worry About the Size of Your Koi Pond Pump - Make the Right Choice

Here are some tips on what to keep in mind if you are considering the purchase of a Koi pond pump. Many of us are aware of the need for a pond pump, but do not know the specifics and are unaware of where to go for more information. Throughout your research it is of major importance to keep in mind that it could be a high capacity pump you should be going for depending on the size of your pond and other factors. In other words, you want a pump that is capable of moving a considerable amount of water in a pond within the relatively short time of an hour. Determine the power of the pump you consider buying because it is important that a struggle-free operation is a viable expectation.

Keeping Koi in a pond is a delicate undertaking. Koi thrive in water that is well-aerated, fresh, and clean. These water qualities are essential for longevity and good health of the Koi. Koi need more than just general care, adequate feeding, and pond maintenance. Merely circulating the water is not enough to keep it clean, fresh, and aerated enough for the Koi. A filter is essential to keep the water in an excellent state. Some biological filters fail to adequately filtrate out all the waste and solid particles that tend to be found in Koi pounds. If you find that your filter is not adequately cleaning your pond water of waste then it is possible to find a Koi pond pump that does more than just circulating the water. It also filters the water. The pond pump/filter combination takes up the responsibility to ensure the high water quality standards that are so essential for the Koi.

A Koi pump strong enough to circulate a considerable amount of water, even strong enough to keep a waterfall or fountain going, is what you are looking for. There are several advantages to these features and you will enjoy their presence. The serenity in your garden increases with the pleasant, tranquilizing sound of a waterfall or fountain. Both a waterfall and a fountain create a relaxing atmosphere. In addition to that, waterfalls and fountains are extremely beneficial to the aeration of the pond since they fold considerable amounts of oxygen back into the water. Koi fish need this oxygen for their health and longevity. Choosing between an external and a submersible pump, in regards to your needs, preferences, and circumstances can be as simple as the design and aesthetics of the garden pond itself. Always consider the size of the pond when you decide on needed capacity of the pump. Older submersible pumps were not always sufficient for larger ponds, while many used to favor the submersible pond because of cosmetic reasons. Newer types of the submersible Koi pond pump are just as effective as the less aesthetic counterpart, the external pump. A submersible pond pump is considered a more esthetic solution because they are out of sight. Remember, GPH (Gallons/Hour) capacity is always of extreme importance!

Of course, external and submersible pond pumps are just the two main categories. Each main category is subdivided in sub-categories. Always consider how efficient a certain pump would be for your particular situation. If your large pond is surrounded by trees or in the shade of a building that blocks the sunlight than a solar pond pump is more than likely not the best option for you. Solar pumps need ample sunlight for power, and they are by themselves usually not suitable for larger ponds anyway. But if you are looking for an environment-friendly Koi pond pump for your small pond that catches a lot of sunlight than a pond pump that is solar powered can be ideal. If you treasure tranquility and a peaceful atmosphere, than you want to avoid unnecessary noise. A good choice for a quiet Koi pump that also offers a safe solution for your fish is to install a magnetic pond pump. It is theoretically impossible for oil to leak from the pump and into the water of the pond. A pond pump that is magnetic is manufactured with extremely tight seals and uses very little energy to opporate compared to old-fashioned Koi pond pump.

Measure your pond and determine how many fish you want to keep in it before you go talk about installation to a specialist. A specialist will ask you what your intentions are with the fish relating to the size and the potential increase in number. Details is the keyword here because the type and size of the ideal pond pump depends on it. Do not forget to inform the specialist about the plants and other features like waterfalls and fountains you plan to include in your pond design and construction. After all, it is economically better to install the right Koi pond pump right from the beginning instead of having to invest money in a second pump to replace the first one when circumstances have changed.

To ensure that the Koi in your pond are as healthy as possible it is essential that you install the right pond pump. The longevity of you Koi depends on it. Avoid having to spend excess money on a second pump. Avoid losing valuable relaxation time by your pond by choosing the perfect Koi pump right from the start.

Beautiful Bionaire Electric Fireplace vs Dimplex Cube

The Dimplex Cube and the Bionaire Electric Fireplace are two cool looking, clean and green electric fireplaces that are as much conversation pieces as they are room heaters.

Their compact size and price (around $ 200) makes them a good fit for just about any room and any budget.

Before we delve into the not so obvious differences between the two, there are a number of features they have in common.

Each features a flame effect that operates with or without heat for year round enjoyment. They plug into standard 110 volt outlets and have over-heat and safety tip-over protection. Both have 1 year warranties and are shipped for free from most retailers.

But this is where the similarities end.

Quality of flame display

Judging the quality and realism of the flame display for an electric fireplace is personal and highly subjective. As they say, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

Owners of the Cube describe its flame display in mostly positive terms with phrases like, “The flames seem so real and the wood chunks so red and hot,” and “…the flame simulation is very attractive - realistic from a distance.”

For the Bionaire, the enthusiasm of the comments was mixed and went from “The heater is great and the look is a pretty realistic flame,” to “I don't like that it doesn't have life like flames; it's just a glowing, moving background.”

Heating capacity

Despite their compact dimensions, the heating capacity for both heaters is identical to that of a large electric fireplace mantle.

Specifically, the Bionaire is rated at 1,500 watts with the Cube slightly less at 1480 watts, or around 5,000 Btu’s each.

Bionaire gives no estimate as to how many square feet their fireplace will heat, but Dimplex states the Cube will heat an area up to 400 square feet. Although this is possible under ideal circumstances, the results you achieve will be determined by how well your home is insulated and weatherized.

Operation

If you want easy, it doesn’t get any simpler than the Cube’s On/Off and Hi/Lo switches.

Offering more in the way of functionality, the Bionaire features a programmable digital display, thermostat, and 12-hour on/off timer - plus everybody’s favorite accessory - the remote control.

Installation

The hardest part about installing the Cube is figuring out where you’re going to plug it in once you get it out the box.

The Bionaire requires slightly more effort because you have the choice of using it as a free standing fireplace by attaching the base, or mounting it on the wall with the included hardware and step by step instructions.

Aside from the aesthetic appeal of mounting an electric fireplace on the wall, it’s also a great safety feature if you have toddlers and/or pets running around.

Just as a side note, the fireplace heaters reviewed here each draw around 12 amps, so they require a dedicated outlet and circuit to prevent blowing fuses or over-loading your home’s wiring. Also, if you must use an extension cord, use a power strip/surge protector – not one of those flimsy extension cords sold at the corner store.

Both the Bionaire Electric Fireplace and the Dimplex Cube offer exceptional value and fast heating from stylish, durable, space saving packages. Ultimately, as with most purchases, the deciding factor is personal taste.

Modern Patio Design Ideas - Creative Shade Awnings

Patios are generally designed to catch the sun. Not necessarily, in warmer areas, the heat of the midday sun, but enough sun to give you that good sense of relaxation and well being that we get when exposed to lots of vitamin D.

Patios are also a hub for family-centered activities: a place for meals; for children to play; for lengthy conversations that lead to important decisions; and for friends to gather outside around the barbecue.

However, it is possible to have too much sun. Patio awnings allow you to enjoy the sun's warmth without becoming burned by the sun, and provide protection against passing showers too. Patio awnings, canopies or shades are a very useful addition to your outdoor comfort.

An awning can be either fixed or retractable. A fixed awning, as its name suggests, stays in the same position all the time. It is usually some type of shade cloth fixed to a permanent frame of steel or aluminium. Retractable awnings can be swiftly stowed away, and are available in either powered or manually operated versions. In climates where permanent awnings must be dismantled at the approach of winter and erected again in spring, retractable awnings, which can be left in their cassette all year round, are especially useful.

An alternative to a complete awning is a shade sail. Shade sails can be custom made to any size you require, or you can combine a number of smaller ones to cover a larger area (the solution you choose will depend partly on your site, and partly on your budget). Shade sails work by a tension system - the sails, often triangular in shape, are anchored to tension points which may be attached to the walls of the dwelling or to the tops of poles sunk into the ground. They have the advantage of being portable: if you sell your home, you can move the sail to your new home and reinstall it for the price of new tension points.

Shade structures were once all made from canvas. However, today there are many colourful acrylic fibres that are woven together to make shade cloths. The cloths are long lasting and tough, making damage from wind or storm unlikely. The closeness of the weave creates different levels of protection against the sun, giving the consumer yet more choice about the amount of protection desired - and cost, too.

Shade protection given by patio awnings and shade sails keeps the sun-lover safe from painful overexposure to the sun. They can also reduce glare, and can be found in colors to suit any existing color scheme.

Adorable Solar Powered Garden Fountains

Solar powered garden fountains are a relatively new type of solar product on the market today, but  products that make perfect sense. A fountain is merely a reservoir of water and a pump that keeps the water flowing.  Solar Fountains use a small solar panel that generates enough energy to power the pump, so no AC cord is needed. Newer solar fountains are using a small battery to store the energy, so the fountain will even work at night.

The solar panel for the fountain can be mounted in a couple of different ways. Some manufacturers use a patented, integral, underwater solar panel. It would be incorporated in the top part or bowl of the fountain and would face directly up towards the sun. Still other fountains use a remote solar panel that has a roughly a 10 foot cord attached. This allows greater flexibility when considering where to place the solar panel. The remote solar panels can be mounted on a wall or using the stand provided, on a flat surface. They can also be stake mounted into the ground.

The solar panel needs to be positioned in direct sunlight for the fountain to operate properly. If you have a shady spot where you want to install it then a fountain with a remote panel would be the best choice. If the solar panel is mounted in the top of the fountain then it would need to be located where it would get direct sunlight. Proper placement is critical to the operation of these products.

Solar Powered garden fountains are usually constructed of glazed ceramic, terracotta or stone cast resin. The stone cast resin material will have a grey stone, black iron or bronze finish. Some of the fountains are made of more exotic materials like slate or copper. There are also several types of solar fountains to be considered. Two tiered and three tiered are very popular but there are cascading fountains and pouring fountains as well. Solar powered birdbath fountains are very attractive and have also become quite popular. All of them will create the soothing sound of running water using power from the sun.

Solar fountains are really not all that complicated so installation is a breeze. There are no costs to operate these fountains because they use the sun's energy. They require no external electricity, are environmentally friendly and enjoy a very long life. To maintain them just clean the fountain with a mild soap and water solution from time to time.

Prices range from $ 79 to $ 250 and there are not a lot of extra options to worry about. One such option is an AC adapter so they can operate in the winter or at night. Not all solar fountains have this option but it is a consideration for the ones that do. Solar powered garden fountains provide the sound of running water creating a cool, relaxing atmosphere. They do this at a reasonable price with virtually no operational costs, all in all another great use for solar power.

Best The Evolution of Fireplaces & Fireplace Designs in Our Homes

Fireplaces from their early inception were both community centers in the home offering comfort, safety and a hot meal. Our ancestors in the trees so to speak did without hot and cooked meals, which we take for luxury today. Yet cooked meals were not only a means of comfort and pleasure, as well dangerous and non tasty pathogens were removed from the digestive and health scenes. Yet even though the early fireplaces were little more than wood or peat fires on earth hearth they have evolved today into sophisticated appliances that offer both heat , visual appeal and indeed are a centerpiece furnishing accessory in many of our homes and buildings.

The historic Saxon-era abode, whether it was a palace, a manor house or a lowly simple one room cottage was no doubt and definitely built around the fireplace. Room could be added on at different time periods and stages of the house or cottage’s lifetime, but the fireplace was the hub and hubbub of early English domestic life providing heat to cook food, boil water and heat up the bones of inhabitants and guests.

This common hall was usually, though not always, on the ground floor and level and was traditionally open to the roof. The fire as it was would be generally placed in the center of the room, and the resulting smoke would drift out through open windows, crevices in the eaves – or futuristically in a hole in the roof created just for that purpose and role. The birth of the chimney so it appears.

Technology and things changed over time – sometimes for the better as coal as a fuel was less smoky and objectionable than wood fires when burnt in such quarters as this. Not to say that the inhabitants of the early peat and wood fireplaces were not grateful for their heat, comfort and warm food. Yet when one considers that in this common room or heated areas the inhabitants would have no doubt had to lie close to the fire or early fireplace to keep warm during chilly times.

Fireplace and heating technology marched on so that by the 12th century recessed fireplaces in other rooms of houses along with their chimney exhaust systems began to appear on the scene becoming somewhat more commonplace and available. Still though the concept and dominance of the central home fireplace was still played such an important and dominant role that chimneys did not come into use in the central hall areas until the early 16’Th century.

Last in line though were “smoke turrets “or louvers which finally were introduced during the reign of Henry III according to written records of the time. However sadly no actual examples of these smoke turrets are still in existence. Initially these louvers were built solely for assisting the exhaust of smoke and smoky air out of the buildings.

Gradually it seems that fireplaces and fireplaces designs evolved over time and function from the simple fire in the center of the home to fireplaces with their chimney stacks and as a highly decorative architectural ornament and indeed household furnishing accessory if not center point.

Lovely Modifying A Pit Bike

Pit bikes can be great fun, and an enjoyable alternative to a conventional bike. They do however have some parts that restrict their day to day performance. And if you are serious about your pit bikes performance, then such restrictions can be a great hindrance. You may wish to travel at high speeds in a safe environment, or perhaps accelerate swiftly for a more enjoyable and efficient ride. This cannot take place if you remain with the stock original parts fitted to your pit bikes.

Parts

The parts of pit bikes that are so restrictive are the carburettor and the manifold. These two parts can be bought for low prices and such replacements could mean a great deal of extra performance for your pit bikes. A carburettor can cost as low an amount as 50; since this cost is so low, it is also advised that you purchase a performance level air filter too, in order to make best use of your newly install part. Increase airflow to the engine will often result in increased performance, which of course is what we are after in this process.

It is additionally a great idea to replace the exhaust system with a performance level exhaust system; such upgrades can improve pit bikes and their performance a great deal. When added to the performance improvements that you will already have with the newly fitted carburettor and air filter, your overall performance improvements should now be great. These performance exhausts also come in at only 50 or so, meaning that they are another fine and low cost addition to pit bikes.

Both these additional changes to your factory stock bike will make improvements to low and mid range torque, increasing horsepower modestly as well. There are however other improvements that can be made.

Restrictions

Many Pit Bikes will have been fitted with a restrictor, which limits rpm to around 8,500rpm. This is found in the CDI unit, but with the purchase of a performance level CDI unit, you can possibly remove the limit, allowing rpms of up to 10,000rpm. This will give far better acceleration, which is not only greater, but more comfortable and with less peaks and falls.

Gear adjustments can also be made, depending on the type of track you are planning on riding the bike on. This can be done by changing the sprockets, which are commonly 14 tooth in the front and 37-40 tooth in the rear. If you replace the front sprockets for larger ones, the front end will be improved. Changing sprockets for smaller rear sprockets will have similar effects; sacrificing acceleration for top end improvements, with the reverse also being true.

In all, modifications to pit bikes can make surprisingly marked improvements in performance that belies the low cost of said improvements.

Best of Maintenance of Outdoor Fountains

A fountain is an artificially created jet with the stream of water that's decorated with a grant structure containing a reservoir or chamber. Fountains are used for both interior and exterior purposes to have an admirable look. When the climate is too hot, fountains provide enough moisture to sustain heat and withstand humidity. The outdoor fountains have the most relaxing sound and no one can deny the truth that fountain drowns out the noise of traffic and humans. The glinting effect of the water surface can bring the smooth and relaxing mind. These outdoor water fountains relay on submersible jet pumps that circulate water through the feature. The outdoor fountains have some of the important benefits such as purifying the air and developing a natural healthy environment, and to have a relaxed stress free mind. Fountains in outdoors are ornamentally designed to attract the maximum number of spectators and thereby become a centerpiece.

Fountain Maintenance Is Not A Tough Job:

Fountains supply us rich beauty and therefore maintaining a fountain is an important task. Small outdoor floor fountains and table top outdoor fountains are easy to maintain, since they have the little setup. But, when dealing with the water level and pump of large fountains, it's necessary to remember the following steps. When you purchase a fountain, it's important to have a close look at its operation and figure out the usage of water consumed daily or weekly. The better thing is to maintain the water level above the fountains pump, so that the flow of water is kept consistent and also maximizes the life of the water pump. Most of the pumps are found usually in the base of the water feature or reservoir and confirm whether the pump is completely submerged in water to avoid motor damage. The Most important factor is, make the new outdoor fountain to run regularly for its optimal performance and functionality. And check for debris build up; if so wipe it off clearly.

Proper Handling Endures The Fountain Everlasting:

There's no strict guideline on cleaning up the sculpture part of the fountains. Keep an eye on the quality of water and dust build ups over the outdoor fountains. Its recommended to use soft clothing's to wipe out the dust over the fountains, since tough clothing materials can bleach the originality of the colors. Also, use feature organic and non-chemical recommended cleaners to wipe off the sediments from the outdoor fountains. When the sound of the motor is high than the trickling water fall, it is necessary to look at the pump, if it is properly installed in reservoir or not. At frequent time, the splashing of water may be irregular and this troubleshoot is caused due to improper installation. If this problem persists further, then it is better to maintain a proper water level neither too low nor too high. Splashing can also controlled by putting small rocks and pebbles over the basins. The trickling sound of outdoor fountains that we hear depends on distance that the water drops into the reservoir, and thereby adjusting the water level the fountain explicit more or less sound.

New A Touch of Georgian Elegance For Your Patio

Imagine lazy Sunday afternoons soaking up the sun on your Georgian style enclosed patio. Looking out on your perfect, manicured lawn dotted with tupelo and black walnut trees, listening to the soft breezes rustling their leaves. Bees buzzing lazily amongst the honeysuckle flowers that drape over the fence, and on the other side an expanse of green pasture with horses grazing peacefully.

A Georgian patio like this is a modern day twist on the classic old wrap-around southern porch, such as you could see gracing historic American homes. The screens which would have surrounded the patio then have now given way to tempered glass, so you can have air conditioning, and your view isn't marred by fly screens. If you have an older home, still with some or all of its original patio roof, it can be retro-fitted, or you can choose to remove the roofing and have a green house effect instead. You can choose to remodel just one side of the house, or even remodel the whole circumference.

Your Georgian style enclosed patio is suited to any decorating taste. It is quite common for them to be furnished with rattan or wicker furniture and patterned, bright colored cushions, however maple or walnut furniture of fine quality also looks good. You might also wish to refinish the siding of the existing house to give a rough hewn look to the backdrop of your elegant patio. If your grounds are heavily treed, you might want to choose lighter colors for the walls and soft furnishings, and warm wood tones such as oak or walnut for the wooden frames of your furniture. As the patio is enclosed there's no danger of weather damage, so for comfort and Georgian style big fluffy pillows and overstuffed cushions are excellent.

If the wooden flooring of the original patio is suitable for restoration, you may do so. Area rugs in a heavy fiber are great, which you can group furniture around, and achieve a balanced look. Visual interest can be supplied by choosing intricate patterns and light colors. These durable rugs are especially suitable for high traffic areas. Indoor-outdoor rugs don't have to be ugly, and you can find lots of beautiful natural fiber rugs made from materials such as sisal or bamboo.

To bring the garden inside, you could have macrame hangers inside the patio as well as outside, with flowering begonias, which provide a lovely counterpoint to the walls and furniture with their intense colors. Lots of little pots of African violets clustered in a window which faces east is another idea for adding interest. Tall indoor palms or philodendrons are also well suited to a patio with a glass ceiling. Being tall they draw people's eyes upwards and add an extra sense of intimacy.

For intimate evening light, consider recessed lighting, which won't interfere with the natural light of daytime. If the sun is too much in the day, add slatted wooden blinds, light curtains or cloth blinds in a suitably coordinated color. These should cut down the sun but not cut it out altogether. Valances are suitable as well for your Georgian styling.

Wall hangings should be chosen to complement your color scheme but also to add a little contrast. The best idea is to choose decorations which have two or three tones complementing the décor and a few splashes added of vibrant color. Another touch of contrast in color can be added by figurines or vases, sparingly used.

Lovely Patio Heaters Guide

Homeowners with a real appreciation of the out-of-doors will frequently have a patio or deck installed in the rear of their house. Besides enabling them to enjoy the tranquility of the back yard or garden, a patio can also serve as a private space in which to escape the house and its many distractions. Fresh air and sunshine are also a bonus enjoyed in the patio environment.

But, unless you live in the deep South, there will be many times when sitting on the patio or deck will become an unpleasant experience due to the weather. Since the patio is out there all year round, why shouldn't the homeowner be able to enjoy it year-round? That is where the Patio heater comes into play.

A lot of folks will look at the idea of heating "the whole outdoors," which is essentially what a patio heater does, and dismiss it as craziness. The modern patio heater, though, is capable of heating the small area around the occupants of the patio very efficiently without wasting all of its output on the neighbor's yard.

The way that this is accomplished is very simple: infrared radiation. Infrared radiation is the heat that you feel on the palm of your hand when you hold it up in front of the fireplace. It is also referred to as radiant heat, as in the use of radiators to heat a house. The cooking industry has developed gas-fired infrared heaters that turn almost one hundred per cent of the gas's energy into infrared heat. It's what most of the high-end steakhouses use to grill their steaks these days.

The tall mushroom shape of the patio heater captures and reflects the infrared given off by the heating element down towards the occupants of the patio. This means that the homeowner can sit out in the October twilight enjoying a beverage and watching the stars come out with no need for a blanket.

About Landscape Photography - How to Find Those Great Landscape Photography Locations

We've all seen the photos, the great landscape photographers have taken and wondered how they managed to be so lucky to get that photo. You know the ones, the photo with the perfect blue water or the photo with a beautiful waterfall with a rainbow above it. Well guess what? Those photos have almost nothing to do with luck and all about persistence and hard work. So what do you need to do to make sure that you too get those great photos?

Step 1 - Research:

If you want fantastic shots you need to do lots of research. I spend more time each week researching new and existing locations than I do actually getting the money shots. Instead of going to a location that you're thinking of photographing at exactly sunset, try getting there an hour and a half before the sunset and talk a good walk around the location. Take some test shots of the area and see how they look, lie down on the ground and climb up to a high point to see what it looks like from a different perspective.

Another great trick once you've decided on a location and are setup is to turn around and look behind you, there have been many times when the shot I actually ended up taking was actually behind me.

If you've though of a location to capture your landscape photograph and you want a different perspective on that location try finding how other people have shot the location of Flickr its a fantastic research tool as well. Remember don't copy how others took the photo, but certainly use it to view how other people see it.

Talk to people who bushwalk, these guys are an absolutely amazing source of information and get to areas many of us would never think of.

When you get to an area that you think might be a great candidate work out if it's a morning shoot or an evening shoot, then get out there and shoot it. Remember weather always plays an important part in landscape photography and if you don't get great conditions the first time around, keep going back until the magic happens. I've gone back to one spot for 2yrs trying to get the perfect shot of the area. I finally got it but it took persistence.

Step 2 - Persistence:

So many people go to a spot once or twice and give up if they don't get the conditions they want. You have to keep going back and trying different angles and shooting it in different conditions until you get the photo you want to achieve, just don't give up. Getting great landscape photographs is all about hard work and very little luck.

So start researching your locations and get out there and start shooting, you'll be capturing awesome landscapes before you know it.

About What You Should Know About Koi Pond Building

Good pond design and efficient filtration make for healthy fish. An attractive pond may not necessarily be a good home for koi if it means that maintaining water quality is going to be difficult. Now is the time to get it right. Once the garden design layout has been finalized, you can begin to make a detailed plan of the pond and the materials and methods to be used in its construction.

The plan will include positioning the bottom drains, skimmers and water returns from the filter. Check with the appropriate authorities for regulation concerning the ducting of cables and pipes, etc.

For example, how deep should they be laid and do they need special protection? Supply cable and pipe runs should be clearly marked on the plan. Specialist tradesman will be required, often at short notice, to install components such as gas boilers or electrical fuse boxes and safety devices.

After marking it out the site, take a last look at the layout from a high vantage point, such as an upstairs window, before starting to dig. If all is well, you can begin. There are several ways of building a pond, but which ever method you choose, you will need to dig a hole.

If you intend to use the soil taken from the hole as part of the garden or pond design, then prepare an area to receive it. If you are not going to keep it, calculate approximate volume of the excavated soil so that you can arrange for its disposal.

Either way, bear in mind that when soil is removed from the ground it expands in volume. According to the type of soil and its moisture content at the time of digging, 10 meter squared in the ground could become 20-30 meter squared once it is removed and loaded into containers.

It may be necessary to obtain permission from a local authority for waste containers to be placed at the roadside if they cannot be accommodated on your property.
