Amazing Koi Pond Construction and Water Landscaping

You know the beauty of a waterfall, its serene look is peaceful and with the composed way it flows it just calms anyone who sees it. The same should be said for your Koi pond construction. The possibilities are endless, you don't have to spend a fortune but if you want to create an unruffled place to relax you can design the pond that will last for years.

Depending on where you live there are some environmental issues that you might have to deal with. California has some ecological ponds that are eco friendly. Remnant of exotic Japanese gardens a Koi pond should be a tranquil place for you to relax at the end of a day and enjoy watching your Koi swim.

A lot of people try to build their own ponds and if you have the know how to do so then you can make a beautiful and engaging place. If you are not a builder then you might find yourself requesting the help of a qualified water landscaper. It's best to ask for help so you don't loose any Koi due to any inadequate building or constructing.

Because you can design one of a kind pond there are several routes you can take. You can have waterfalls and lights and even vegetation. You can build one right outside your breakfast nook or on your property provided you have enough room. There are many designers who can give you an estimate on how much it will cost to craft your Koi pond co and how much it will cost to maintain it year round.

If you want to build a low maintenance Koi pond remember that natural doesn't always mean healthy. You should always have an extra pond for water runoff and for when it rains. A filter is the best investment that you can make, you should choose one that will do everything you need such as clean the water and keep the Ph balance at optimal levels for your Koi.

Your Koi pond should be at least 3 feet deep, it should be between 4 and 6 feet so that your Koi can have plenty of room. If it gets cold where you are a deeper Koi pond construction might be better since you want to have enough water for them to survive. Deeper ponds give them a better chance.

Always make sure your pond is higher than normal ground. Water runoff from lawns and rainstorms will kill your Koi and even though a filter is designed to protect the water it cannot work overtime if it's clogged with debris. Do not place a Koi pond under a tree. The roots will seek out the water and leaves will upset the Ph balance in your water.

Pond construction should be advanced enough that the pump and electrical equipment can work year round without too much maintenance. You can build a Koi pond that will last for years to come if you do it right the first time. Koi pond construction is based on your budget, create a place that you can afford to keep and build on later if you want to.

Nice Coming Up With Some Unique Fireplace Designs

In any home, a fireplace can make a simple occasion special. Thanks to the fireplace, you can feel warm and comfy whether you're having a family get-together or a conversation with a friend at home. Without a doubt, the fireplace is not just another part of your home. Choosing a run-of-the-mill fireplace design won't do it justice, right? Since fireplaces make homes look stunning, then it's recommended to give them distinctive fireplace designs that will definitely catch the attention of every guest in your home. Nowadays, many contemporary fireplace designs use concepts and themes that often veer away from the norm. If you're looking for a distinct-looking fireplace, then you can come across a lot of fireplace design ideas from websites and magazines.

With the best and out of the ordinary fireplace designs, you can make your home's appearance more vivid and appealing. Fireplace components such as the hearth (also known as the fireplace floor) can be used to accentuate your fireplace. The hearth can be made of various materials such as tile, brick, cement, flagstone, or wood. Choose a hearth material that best complements the general appearance of your home and fireplace. Designs such as a hearth extended to the living room can highlight your fireplace. You also have the option to have the hearth raised from the floor.

Fireplaces without vents make interesting home accents, too. Apart from that, these fireplaces produce a clean burn, so they're safe for your home and the environment. Other great accents to any home or office are freestanding fireplaces that come in attractive styles and designs. What's more, freestanding fireplaces don't need installation and can be moved from one place to another. A number of fireplace designs have vents through walls-a feature that makes chimneys unnecessary. Also, there are fireplaces made using advanced technology such as those with remote controls and thermostats.

In addition, you can use tiles of various colors, shapes, and sizes to make your fireplace deserving of a second glance. When it comes to materials, tiles are available in glass, terra cotta, porcelain, and ceramic among others. If paired with accent tiles, these materials can bring a stunning appearance to your fireplace.

To make your fireplace a more prominent spot in your home, you can add an elegantly designed mirror, a painting, or a framed photograph over the fireplace. Use a dramatic lighting on your fireplace, and it will surely look strikingly appealing. These accent pieces are sure to draw the eye toward your fireplace.

Unique fireplace designs must be able to make your fireplace deserving of praise and admiration. Whatever design you choose for your fireplace, keep in mind that safety is just as important as appearance. Particularly for homes with small kids, you have to ensure they're out of harm's way by choosing safe fireplace designs.

Amazing Cheap Fireplace Accessories, Is That What You Really Want?

There are many things in life I am more than willing to buy less expensively. However, when it comes to protecting our home and enjoying our fireplace, cheap fireplace accessories do not equate. Cheap is great when you are buying a bag of frozen hash browns at the grocery store or a t-shirt to work in at the shop. When I am lighting a fire inside my home, I would like to at least think I am ready for any situation that might present itself to me.

Fireplace screens can be found at the local big box store for less than fifty dollars, the same one I got my t-shirt from. Hurray! What a deal, sign me up. This is the screen I am willing to trust to not only knock down errant sparks from the hearth, but also help to keep a piece of wood that has come loose and is rolling out of the hearth onto my wood floor. Yes, a screen will knock down an errant spark with ease, but keep a four or five pound rolling log in its place until you can deal with it, I don't think so. I believe a sturdy screen with a little weight to it is a good idea. It also needs wide feet to support it and keep it from moving.

Fireplace hearth rugs can be found at many different locations. Big box stores, local hardware stores and carpet and rug specialty stores, all of which have choices for the home owner. Cheap is a relative term here. There is a vast difference when buying a fireplace hearth rug that has a certification of non-combustibility or fire resistant classification and a rug without certification.  I do not care how pretty it is or the deal you got when buying it, if it does not do the job when an ember falls, it is of no value.

Buy cheap fireplace accessories and a lot of fire insurance, or keep your standard policy and buy quality fireplace accessories, the choice is always yours. Yes, I have a bias toward what is quality and good judgment for the home.

Have a happy and warm winter.

The Best How To Deck The Fireplace With Mirror

You will seldom see a fireplace adorned beautifully like the rest of the house. Oftentimes, the space above it is left bare, making the fireplace nothing much than a place for heating in a cold season. But if you come to think of it, there are hundreds of way that the fireplace can be decorated with, and one is with the use of mirrors.

By hanging a large decorative mirror above the fireplace, you can turn it from a boring spot into a lively and exciting one. When choosing a mirror to deck it with, pick one that has a stylish and bold frame. You can also consider a mirror frame made from a similar texture to that of the fireplace. For instance, if the frame of your fireplace is made of oak, try to find a mirror with a frame having a similar look with an oak wood.

If you want to achieve a dramatic effect, try hanging two same-sized mirrors. Make sure they are large enough to completely cover the wall extending to the ceiling. To achieve a layered effect, place a large square mirror in place of the two separate ones. Take a mirror with say, eight sides, and a unique frame design, and hang it to cover the middle section of the main mirror. The effect will simply be dazzling.

Aside from layering, you can also arrange mirrors so that they can create a large individual mirror. Six small or medium-sized mirrors would be perfect for this setup. Take the first three and hang them first on the topmost part of the wall. Take the second three next and hang them just below the other three. For balance, make sure you use mirrors of the same shape, size, and frame color.

While mirrors can stand on their own, you can also try accompanying them with secondary items. Smaller mirrors may serve as the secondary items or you can use other accessories such as accentuated picture frames and decorative porcelain dish. Again, make sure the mirror is huge enough to fill the rest of the space above the fireplace. Have the accompanying items arranged beautifully at the sides or just beneath the mirror.

A rule of the thumb is to make sure the mirrors and the accompanying accessories have a common attribute with the fireplace. In short, your setup should create a thematic result. If you wish to break the rules however, it's alright as long as you can come up with something simple yet elegant.

Amazing What a Patio Awning Can Do For You

A patio awning is a wonderful thing: capable of both form and function, it serves the double duty of adding aesthetic value to your home, and of giving your home ample protection from the ravages of the elements, most notably the abuse brought about by the sun, the wind and of all sorts of precipitation (rain, snow, hail, etc.). Even more, awnings of this sort can also help to "blend" the entryways of your home with your garden, giving you easier and much more comfortable access to your garden from your home, and vice versa.

First, let us take a look at the aesthetic aspects of owning a patio awning. Awnings are a great way to ornament your patio and garden without essentially overwhelming them. They do not feel out of place in a patio, in addition to providing valuable shade in open areas. Also, these awnings come in a wide variety of colors, depending on the material they are composed of. When choosing colors and styles, you are only limited by your imagination. Also, the frames used for holding awnings up can also be composed of different materials, each with their own set of aesthetic and structural advantages.

With this beauty comes also a very important function that awnings fulfill perfectly: protection. Awnings, in addition to having their own aesthetic charm, are also durable enough hold their own against different forms of precipitation (rain, snow, etc.). The covers used for awnings are also made of durable materials in order to withstand the rays of the sun, especially during the latter parts of the morning and the noon. All this, again, comes with the valuable shade these accessories provide for us.

What's more, awnings are easy to maintain and even upgrade with accessories of their own. There are specialized parts and outdoor accessories of every sort to make the experience of hanging out in your patio a much more pleasant one. A little lubricant and a specialized cleaner (to help maintain the waterproof nature of the cover, along with providing additional sun protection) will go a long way in keeping your awning in good shape. Remember, too, to fold your awning in when the wind picks up, and when you are not using it, as many an awning has been lost, even done damage to property and to other people, simply because it got blown off its position by a strong wind.

Amazing Principles of Excellence in Landscape Design

Design means the arrangement of parts in any work of art, such as a painting, a building, or a garden. Good design satisfies us; poor design is irritating.

The principles of good design are really quite simple. Unity, propriety, variety, scale and harmony are the main ones. Anyone can understand what they mean if we cut away the attempt to appear intellectual. Though simple words, they should be taken seriously.

Unity is created by any common bond that ties the parts together. A picture frame defines the picture and makes it a unit separate from the wall paper, but a number of pictures are given unity by having similar frames. The parts of a garden are drawn together by defining them by planting around the boundaries, by connecting them with paths of similar material or by repeating plants of the same species. Even the color of green common to most plants has a strong uniting effect.

Variety is interesting if you are a collector but too much variety is confusing. Rather than using single plants of a lot of different varieties, use large numbers of a few sorts to create the desired mass effect. Then plant one or two well-chosen specimens to create interest at strategic points against this unifying background.

Propriety too, is simple. No one puts on a dinner jacket to dig a ditch. Potted geraniums or hybrid tea roses are equally out of place when planted in a rock garden. Similarly, the symmetry and geometric form of formal gardens look out of place in the middle of a gently rolling lawn, but most pleasing from a paved terrace.

Scale simply means relative size. An elm planted beside a modern bungalow does not complement the house; it dwarfs it. A paved path 8 feet wide is suitable in a public park but in most city gardens it would be a patio.

Harmony is the easy, gradual blending of color, texture and form. Contrast is a sudden change that creates more dramatic effect but may cause conflict of interest.

These are the principles we must keep in mind when thinking of the various units in detail. Good design, or good taste, is hard to define together with plant questions and answers but most people appreciate it when they meet it.

You need not be too tied down to rules and it is not necessary to create an artistic masterpiece. The important thing is to create a property that meets the needs of your family for pleasant outdoor living. if the artistic effect satisfies your need for beauty and comfort, then it is the right garden for you.

Amazing Essential Fireplace Accessories For Your Home

Fireplaces are a great addition to any home, but there are a lot of accessories and tools that go along with it. You almost cannot use a fireplace out of the box. I suppose you might be able to one fire started, but without the proper fireplaces accessories, the fireplace will soon get dirty, not give off as much heat, and could pose safety concerns for you and your family. If you have the proper fireplace tools then there is no reason the fireplace cannot last for a very long time.

One essential fireplace accessory is the fireplace tools set. This is a set of tools that are usually hung on a holder of some kind right next to the firebox. The set usually include a shovel and brush to help you clean out old ashes and tongs and a poker that will help you move hot logs when you need to encourage the fire to burn evenly. The fireplace accessory tool set is functional, but it can also be a decorative element. Just having one of these fireplace accessory sets next to your fireplace makes it seem more authentic and makes it look like you use the fireplace often even if you do not. Some people even buy ornate antique fireplace accessories that are never actually used and are just for show.

If you want to ensure that your fireplace is efficient in giving off heat then you should invest in a fireback. This is an iron or steel plate that fits into the back of the firebox that will reflect hear back into the room rather than let it get absorbed into the brick in the back or escape up the flue. Firebacks have been proven to increase the amount of heat given back to a room from a burning fireplace.

If you are interested in fireplace accessories for safety then you should look into a fireplace screen. Screens can also be decorative, but they are good for keeping you and any guests safe. It reminds adults to keep a safe distance so they do not get hit by any sparks that pop out of a burning fire. They are almost essential for children because they would protect a child who was falling from falling directly into a fire. Another safety element is a cover for on top of you flue on the roof. These covers or caps keep small animals, rain, and debris from making their way down your chimney. They also can correct problems with a poorly designed flue.

Best of Must See In Rome The Trevi Fountain

Rome, the eternal city, is a place you visit once and never forget. Rome was built to amaze the tourists and to get them viewing its ancient past and ruins. The amazing structures shout out the vibrancy the city embodies. It's amazing how people once visit this mystical place and just can't get enough of all the scintillating beauty it has in every structure. One such structure is the Trevi Fountain.

Standing guardian to billions, with a picturesque background of the Palazzo Poli, and having weathered the flurry of history for centuries, stands the unmoved chronicled Fontana di Trevi. Also known as The Trevi Fountain, located in the city of Rome, the Trevi Fountain was first drafted by Pope Nicholas V in 1453 A.D. Although the present shape of it was administered by Giuseppe Pannini and the design was developed by Nicholas Salvi in1762, bold colonnades, domes, light, color effects, and the volume and void give it a classical look of Baroque architecture.

The whole fountain is 25.9 meters high and 19.8 meters wide, making it the largest Baroque fountain in the city, and one of the most famous fountains in the world. In a symbolic representation, Tritons the sea Gods and Goddesses tames Hippocampus the sea horse, symbolizing human perseverance against the wrath of nature in the form of water. From the elevation the scene is dominated by a tall Arch, which is so tall that it's difficult to stop looking at it. An attic statue and a balustrade surmount four columns of the Corinthian. The balance and symmetry at the center is maintained by a gigantic niche.

Apart from the beauty and the scenery, another reason that people go to this place is the tradition of coin throwing. It is considered that the bottom of the fountain symbolizes the sea. A traditional legend says that if a single coin is dropped by the right hand over the left shoulder into the fountain this will ensure a safe return to Rome, two coins ensure a romantic love affair and three a divorce. Thousands of tourists visit the fountain and this continues the tradition. An estimated 3000 Euros worth of coins are collected from the fountain every day. This money is further used to subsidize various markets in Rome for the poor and needy people.

Various famous Hollywood movies have captured the beauty of these fountains. Three Coins in the Fountain, Fontanaie d Roma, and Eat Love Pray are some of the more notable ones that you may have heard of. It has also been featured in the movie Fontane Di Rima, and was also the setting for the amazing and legendary scene in the movie La Dolce Vita starring Marcello Mastroianni. Quite amazingly, when the actor died the fountain was draped in black in his remembrance.

Having foreseen six centuries of awe-inspiring life, praising the wonder of this statue would be an understatement in itself. The Trevi Fountain is a unique fusion of beauty, hope, authority and immutability.

Best Get That Water Circulating in Your Garden Koi Pond

How to Maximize Your Garden Koi Pond Turnover Rate

Simply put, the turnover rate of your pond is how fast it takes for all the water in it to go through the pond filter. It varies from pond to pond.

Ready...Set...Calculate!

This should excite you math-whizzes out there. To find out what your Koi pond's turnover rate is, simply calculate how much water your pump moves per day and divide it by the volume of your pond.

So, for instance, if you have a 50,000 liter pond and a pump that moves X liters of water per hour, it would be pumping (X*24) liters per day. Take that number and divide it by 50,000 liters and you have your turnover rate.

The turnover rate determines the average ammonia concentration in your garden Koi pond water. That's how much ammonia is left in the water after filtration. This will vary depending how often the pond water is turned over.

Why does turnover rate matter?

High turnover rates ensure high oxygen levels in the pond. You need oxygen in the water because Koi need oxygen, the plants need oxygen, and the microorganisms in the water need oxygen to live. Because of this, oxygen levels in the water tend to fluctuate depending on many factors including time of day, number of fish, number of plants, etc.

On the reverse side, low oxygen levels can spell disaster. So keep your eye on the oxygen.

Turnover Rate and Bio filters

Knowing your garden Koi pond turnover rate is also important when shopping for a bio filter. Keep in mind that a filter chamber can handle only so much. It does not have a limitless capacity. Additionally, your pond's flow rate will affect the water's residence time in the bio filter.

Residence Time?

Just like how it sounds, residence time is the maximum amount of time the pond water is in the bio filter, in contact with the bio media.

For instance, if the residence time of the filter chamber is 2 minutes, that means it takes the bio film and active bacteria in the filter 2 minutes to convert the harmful ammonia in your garden Koi pond (from the Koi feces) into nitrites and then to nitrates.

You don't really need a chemistry degree to understand this - well, on second thought, maybe you do. Point is you don't want ammonia. Ammonia makes the Koi sick. The bio filter oxidizes it and converts it to something safer for the fish.

We could go into the theories and discussions involving how these hardworking little buggers do their work, but we won't. We'll just take a moment to thank them right now....

OK.

The bottom line with bio filters is you can't have too much of it protecting your garden Koi pond keeping the water clean and healthy for you fish. Having said that, there is no reason to get all excited and begin messing around with the flow rates to try to maximize contact time with the bio filter. Leave that alone.

If turnover rate slows down, you could put your bio filter into ammonia overload. You don't want that, trust me. If your bio filter is not able to oxidize all the ammonia on the first pass, it has another opportunity the next time around providing your turnover rate is decent.

If you have a new garden Koi pond, keep in mind that it takes time to get a new bio filter to grow bio film. It took you 9 months from conception to birth (10, really) so don't rush nature. Give the little guys a chance to get going.

Let the pond find its own "happy place" or equilibrium. Don't over-feed the Koi. The more you feed, the more they excrete; and with an immature bio filter, this can lead to problems.

Keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite levels and just let nature run its course.

Oh, alright, I'll tell you how to cheat nature. Get some Bao Bio Clear - that'll jump start the bio film growth.

Amazing May Garden Guide For the Landscape

In Northern United States and Canada

There is still time to plant evergreens. As long as you do this before the new growth is excessively far advanced, and as long as they have a good root ball and are mulched and well watered after planting, they will live and prosper. May is a good time to transplant Magnolias and Tulip trees. Continue to make sowings of hardy annuals and vegetables. As soon as the weather is settled and the ground reasonably warm, make sowings of Corn, Cucumbers, Melons, Squash, Snap Beans and Lima Beans.

When danger of cool nights has passed, set out Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplants and green Dahlia plants. Geraniums, Heliotropes, Lantanas, Coleus, Cannas, Caladiums and Begonias may be planted outdoors late this month or early in June. Make successional plantings of Gladioli, Montbretias and Tuberoses. Don't cut off the foliage of Spring-flowering bulbs until it has died completely.

If dry weather prevails, Peas, Sweet Peas and many other garden plants will benefit from copious watering. Remember especially regularly to water trees, shrubs and evergreens planted this Spring. Chrysanthemums, Summer Phlox and some other perennials that tend to grow excessively tall and lanky may be induced to bush out if the tips of their growing shoots are pinched out.

Peony flowers will be larger and more perfect if you disbud them by taking off the side buds when they are the size of small peas. Don't delay the staking and tying of perennials. Toward the end of the month is a good time to sow seeds of perennials and biennials in a coldframe or sheltered seed bed outdoors. After they have bloomed is a good time to propagate by division Creeping Phlox, Arabis, Polyanthus Primroses and many other rock garden plants.

Thin out young plants of vegetables and annuals that are crowding each other, and keep the hoe and cultivator busy stirring the surface soil. Do whatever pruning is needed to Spring-flowering trees and shrubs as soon as they are through flowering. Poinsettias should now be brought out of storage and started into growth. Continue to feed both greenhouse plants and house plants which have filled their containers with healthy roots.

In the South

Fertilize Roses to stimulate new vigorous growth that will bear a second flush of flowers in early Summer. Mow lawns regularly and fertilize them lightly when the grass is dry. Water copiously if long spells of dry weather occur.

Fertilize annuals that seem not to be growing rapidly enough. Cut back Petunias and Sweet Alyssum that are becoming straggly to induce bushiness and fresh crops of flowers. Make successional sowings of hot-weather annuals. Dwarf Dahlias sown outdoors now will make a fine display of bloom later.

In the vegetable plot sow Soy Beans, Okra, Melons, Watermelons, Corn, Snap Beans and Lima Beans, Squash and Field Peas. Sow Tomatoes for late cropping. Stake Tomatoes, Peppers and Eggplants before they become so tall that there is danger of damage by storms. Apply a side dressing of fertilizer to these and to Cucumbers, Corn, Beans and other vegetables in need of extra nutrition.

On the West Coast

Don't allow Fuchsias or Begonias to suffer from lack of moisture. Specimens that have filled their containers with healthy roots benefit from feeding regularly with dilute liquid fertilizer also try to know how to root lantana. Plants of Tuberous Begonias set out in May bloom freely from mid-July on. Remove old plants of Cinerarias, Primulas and others that made such a brave show earlier and which are kinds that are discarded after flowering. Replace them with such kinds as Tuberous Begonias, Impatiens and Fuchsias where the location is shaded, with Ageratums, Petunias, Zinnias, Dwarf Dahlias, Snapdragons and the like in sunny locations.

Fertilize Camellias, Rhododendrons and Azaleas after they are through blooming, and mulch the soil beneath them. Make succession plantings of annuals and vegetables. Prune Spring-flowering shrubs that need such attention. Keep plants staked, tied, sprayed and watered.

New Ventless Gas Fireplace Designs and Options

As seasons change from the warmer to the colder temperatures we begin to look at what the best way may be to warm the home. We search for something that is efficient, cost effective and doesn't pose much danger to the house and home to operate. Coal, oil and wood burning fireplaces while efficient can often be expensive or you may not be able to use your fireplace at all if it's a "no burn" day. Vented and ventless gas logs are a good alternative. When it's sure heat you're looking for with a great design, ventless gas fireplace logs is what you should look for.

Vented gas logs, while efficient and pretty, need a chimney to work well and can cause a few problems since they are mostly for show. Ventless gas logs on the other hand can heat a home with a fantastic ability to carry throughout the home and have less problems than the vented although less realistic.

Ventless logs can also be found in the marketplace under alternative terms such as vent-free heater or vent-free fireplace. Nearly every last ounce of heat is kept in the home when using gas logs in a vent free fireplace. Since the flue is closed the heat has not way of escaping the building allowing the whole building to remain a nice and toasty temperature to please everyone inside. The U-shaped burners and the cement or ceramic stack of logs provides a good configuration to carry this out.

The ventless logs do not produce much pollution and can use less gas than a vented log set. The byproduct of the burn is water vapor, therefore if the vapor gets out of control there is a slight chance that mold or mildew may occur. Oxygen may also be withdrawn from the air breathed in the building as carbon dioxide is also produced. Therefore it is a good idea to have a window slightly cracked to allow the escape of the harmful gasses when burning the ventless logs for more than an hour. The good news: ventless gas logs all come with an oxygen depletion system with carbon monoxide detector to alleviate any harmful outcome.

When trying to find the perfect ventless gas fireplace for the home or office a good variety may be found in the marketplace. The charred frontier oak is a favorite with some since it looks more realistic than other models. Warranties are available for logs, burner systems and pilot kits. When it comes time to install the vent-free fireplace or heater it is a plumber that would be able to install it or checking with the local gas company is a secondary source for contractors. The standard burn systems include G46, G5 and G4 with the first two sometimes being a custom ordered ventless gas logs. Remotes are available with some models of ventless gas logs and be used both indoors and outdoors.

Fireboxes, the enclosures for the ventless gas logs, that measure 42"- 48" could nicely hold a 30" ventless log stack. The flames can measure taller than a vented log so it is wise to double check the fireplace to make sure it is the proper size. BTUs range from 30-60,000 hourly in a wood burning fireplace with the flue open while 26-40,000 is the range for a closed flue. This allows for a huge savings in energy costs in many locations. It is necessary to check with the local State, City and Federal Government to see if ventless gas logs are permissible where you may live. Some States in which it is illegal to use ventless gas logs include California, Arizona and Utah. Easy to maintain, ventless heating products do not harm the home or family.

When you build a fire box or fireplace make sure to leave an additional 5" around the sides of the structure to accommodate the width of the logs. The ventless gas logs come a variety of styles and colors. These include ceramic, which is great for minimal carbon output; realistic wood and glass. Building and fire codes will need to be adhered to as the home is readied for a vent-free fireplace.

No matter what lifestyle may be followed, there is a design and color perfect for you own particular needs. For a beautiful addition to the home or office, try out the numerous ventless gas fireplaces available.

Best of Instant Landscaping Ideas Help You Get Started

If you are looking for instant landscaping ideas then a picture tells a thousand words. Being able to visualize an idea is easier than being told. It is so important when increasing the value of your home to remember your garden landscaping. You may have a beautiful home with nothing but the best architectural designs and tasteful interior decorating, but these will melt into mediocrity in the eyes of your neighbors and visitors if your front yard landscaping leaves a lot to be desired.

More than just a patch of lawn in front of the house, front yards serve as the opening salvo to the rest of your property. It is highly important to take care of your front yard and have it landscaped in such as a way that it enhances the beauty of your home. A great way to do this is to make sure that your front yard landscaping matches your home in terms of architectural structure and era. If you live in a Spanish style stone house, it would be great to add an arch of bougainvillea flowers or maybe strategically place some large rocks on the lawn, among colorful tropical flowering plants.

Needless to say, creating a magnificent front yard or hiring someone to do it for you will cost a substantial amount of money. Therefore, you should do all you can to protect your investment by doing all the necessary research and preparation before getting your project under way. Make sure that you have all the necessary tools to maintain the appearance of your landscape in the months and years to come.

For a first-time gardener, front yard landscaping and remodeling may seem very easy, but as you start digging and planting, you will surely encounter several difficulties. For this reason, it is advisable to consult with an expert beforehand and get instructions on how to deal with these potential problems.

To reduce the maintenance requirements, most people try to use other materials besides grass to cover their front yards. A typical element in most front yards is an assortment of rocks and foliage, which are pretty easy to take care of but still provide a touch of class and elegance to the front of your home.

Homeowners are encouraged to create a landscape that reflects their own personality, but some over zealous people tend to go overboard, adding too many gnomes and plastic butterflies amongst the shrubs and flowers. Keeping this in mind as an example, you should remember that one of the key elements in landscaping is to maintain a healthy balance of elegance.

Awesome Pitted Acne Scar Treatment - What Are Your Options For Pitted Scar Treatment?

Believe it or not, there are a number of possible pitted acne scar treatment options available for those who are looking to either diminish the appearance of such nasty blemishes or even be rid of them forever. While pitted acne scars are truly a menace and are often very stubborn and hard to get rid of, that does not mean that you should give up! Instead, look into some of these different methods of treatment, or even discuss them with a professional dermatologist to see what the best course of action might be for you.

Give Dermabrasion a Try

One of the most often recommended options for pitted acne scar treatment is dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is one of the longest standing methods of skin treatment for treating acne scars, and it simply involves removing a layer of skin to allow a new layer to be created and take its place. The procedure itself is pretty simple and only takes about an hour. Beforehand, you will have your skin numbed in order to make the procedure a comfortable one, and the recovery period is not very long, either. This treatment works best for people with either fair or dark skin, but not usually for skin tones that are more olive in nature.

Consider Laser Resurfacing

Another method of pitted acne scar treatment would be laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing treatments are very similar to dermabrasion in that they have the same general idea of removing the damaged layer of skin and promoting the healthier layer underneath. However, laser resurfacing treatments go about it in a different way, by using a pulsating laser to treat the skin. This allows a more precise treatment that can also work very quickly by taking just a few minutes for a small area.

Either one of these pitted acne scar treatment options are very good choices for those that really want to be rid of pitted acne scars for good. There are certain advantages and disadvantages to both, but it is definite that either method will certainly get the job done when it comes to making acne scars either less noticeable or helping to make them disappear altogether. The best way to proceed is to consult with your dermatologist, as they will have the ability to discuss which of the treatment options is best for your skin type or which is best suited for your specific acne scarring.

About Why Does Pond Ph Fluctuate

The pond ph varies on the time of the day you conduct the test. Ph readings done in the morning are lower compared to the tests done in the afternoon. The KH or carbon hardness of the pond water is a determining factor on how much pH will fluctuate within 24 hours. Remember that the ph levels of your pond are not stable the whole day, so dont fret as you see the readings went up or down.

What influences the pH swings in pond?

Pond ph swings are the produced from the natural gas exchange of plants. During the day, plants and other free floating algae release as much oxygen and get carbon dioxide CO2. The drop off in CO2 raises the pH in your pond, which is triggered by photosynthesis. At night, the pH decreases because the plants and oxygen consume oxygen and release CO2. Theres no wonder why low pH is detected every morning. The bacteria, blanket weeds, and sludge at the bottom of the pond may also influence the oxygen and CO2 levels in your koi pond.

How to prevent toxic pH crash in the pond?
The ph levels in koi ponds will eventually plummet without enough carbonates or carbonate hardness; thus, the efficient koi pond keeping means stabilizing the KH at a safe level of 140 and above.

A decrease in pH can be stressful and toxic to fish. The pH is measured from 1 to 14. pH level of 7 is neutral, below 7 is considered acidic, and above 7 is alkaline. A good pH reading is 7.5 in most koi and fish ponds.

The kois and either type of bacteria use the available carbonates in your pond every day. When all these carbonates are consumed, the pond pH will decrease eventually and become acidic.

you can increase the pH quickly after a ph crash, without harming the kois; however, if you attempt or force to reduce the pH instantly, then you are making your fish succumb from unstable water pH. Keep in mind that a very high ammonia reading is deadly to fish, because ammonia is more toxic than with high pH. When dealing with ammonia problem and high pH, you may change the water to drop off the high ammonia, or use ammonia remover. Pond pH buffer can also be used to balance water pH when they have gone at levels suffocating to fish.

You might want to increase the KH of your koi fish to keep it high enough overnight. If thats the case or if its just the water turns terribly lower than 7, you may add buffer to increase the carbonates. Sufficient levels of carbonates will keep the kois healthy, and much more when added with good bacteria.

Best of Koi Filter - Keeping Your Pond Water Clean

For a fish hobbyist, one of the most important pieces of equipment to have is a water filter. It's only natural that since your Koi will be living in your garden pond permanently (unless you sell them), you should go to all lengths to keep the water as clean and as debris-free as possible. In fact, it's even more important for a pond to have a properly-sized Koi filter because it's located outdoors.

Unfiltered Koi water will attain high concentrations of ammonia (excreted by the fish) and will turn green and foul-smelling before you know it. Toxic nitrates will build up and all sorts of foreign matter will find themselves on the pond surface over a short period of time - dead insects, sticks and leaves, uneaten fish food and other debris.

There are two components to Koi filters - mechanical filtration, which removes pollutants and debris physically, and the biological filter which converts ammonia and nitrates into less toxic substances. Both these stages help make life more comfortable and less stressful for your expensive pets. Remember that a happy Koi makes for a healthy Koi.

In mechanical filtration, dirt and other foreign matter is filtered with the use of pads, sand or beads which trap the pollutants so they can be taken out of the water easily. Water is sucked through the filters with the use of a pump. The pump's capacity to process water has a lot to do in how effective it will be. Experts say a water pump has to be able to handle at least 1/3 of the Koi pond's total capacity randomly. There are two kinds of pumps for Koi ponds, submersible pumps and re-circulating pumps. The latter are more effective for large ponds because of their durability and power although they can be quite noisy.

The cleaning process that happens in biological filtration is a bit more complicated. Noxious elements that have formed from pollutant and excretions from the fish like ammonia are acted on by bacteria which transform it into nitrates. Nitrates are still toxic to the fish, but anaerobic bacteria, again through the same process of biological filtration, convert them into nitrites which are not as dangerous to the Koi.

To make sure your fish are swimming in really safe waters, a drainage hole in should be built in the lowest part of the pond. Here, dirt can be sucked-out by the pump and trapped in the filter chambers. This along with an adequate aerator can be the perfect accompaniment to your Koi filter, making the water in your garden pond a clean and hazard-free habitat in which you can enjoy and take care of your fish for many years to come.

New Growing Roses To Decorate Your Landscape

If you decide to grow roses in your landscape, then take a look at these useful information in this article, which is the latest news on this issue.

Roses have many uses in the home garden, both as standalone bushes and climbers and as part of an overall landscape of plants and flowers. The newest thinking in landscape gardening is to combine roses with other types of native plants and flowers, and roses certainly lend themselves to a striking place in the garden.

Roses are also wonderful when used to enhance and highlight areas of the home or surrounding landscape. For instance, climbing roses can be trained to grow up and over a trellis or to highlight and enhance a bare wall or garden shed. In addition, a spray of yellow roses growing against a brick or stone home can be a beautiful addition to the landscape.

Landscaping with roses is one of the best ways to add beauty to the home, and even to enhance its value. Before you can landscape effectively with roses, however, it is important to determine just where roses will fit in your landscape, and how best to use them. Landscaping with roses is not difficult, but it is important to plan properly before the first rosebush goes into the ground.

Planning for next spring’s garden should begin the winter before the garden is to be planted. Planning early allows you to determine the best location for the roses in the garden, and to research the varieties that are most likely to thrive in your climate.

NOTE: If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole story about Roses In Your Landscape from informed sources.

It is also important to ask yourself what you want to get out of your roses. Roses can be used for many different reasons, from providing an attractive ground cover to providing a dramatic backdrop for a beautiful home.

Planning is also important in order to prevent rose specific problems. There are, for instance, a number of pests and diseases that are specific to roses, and it is important to take steps to prevent those problems before planting your roses. It is also important to ask yourself how much time you have to devote to growing roses, since some varieties are harder to grow than others. If your time is limited, it may be best to stick to hardier, easier to grow varieties.

It is also important to choose roses in colors that will best highlight your home and exterior landscape. For instance, a spray of white roses can be quite striking against a dark colored home, just as red roses can beautifully compliment a white exterior.

It is also important to examine your landscape and determine which roses will work best where. For example, hybrid musk roses grow well even in less than full sun, so they are often used in shady areas. It is important to note, however, that hybrid musk roses do not do as well in colder climates. It is important to take your own climate into account, as well as sun and shade considerations, when planning your rose landscape.

Now you can be a confident expert on Roses In Your Landscape. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Roses In Your Landscape.

Awesome Only Teak Furniture For Your Home's Outdoor Mini-Getaway Space

We all wish to have a little time for ourselves. By having a chance to get away from the chaos that our current lifestyle brings, we are given time to recover and revitalize our spirits. Today, there is so much pressure that surrounds us. There's the pressure from our bosses at work and the more personal pressure coming from our family. Having an outdoor getaway right in the home can prove to be useful to our minds and senses.

If the home has an outdoor space like a patio, porch, garden or deck then it can be designed to be a relaxing getaway for the homeowner. The design for this getaway space need not be complex or fussy. The homeowners only need to focus on ultimate convenience and function. Both of which can be provided by teak furniture.

Outdoor spaces of homes are commonly not large areas. While the space may be small, this doesn't necessitate that we should forget about total comfort. Remember the main reason that pushed you to create such space. You want an escape. You want a mini-getaway that is very convenient for you. When you furnish it with teak furniture, you celebrate the best qualities that make your outdoor space really special.

Teak furniture is the most coveted outdoor wooden furniture there is. When you step out into the patio to clear your mind and lift your spirits, you will instantly be greeted by its sheer beauty. Sitting down on a teak chair, you'll feel comforted and hugged by a solid friend. When you use a teak table, you will immediately associate it with someone or something that is highly dependable. More than the beauty and function this furniture brings, the teak pieces of tables and chairs also exude a sense of luxury that is just befitting the image of a tranquil and very inviting outdoor mini-getaway right in your home.

The Misting Systems For a More Comfortable Patio

If you live in a part of the country that could benefit from having a cooler patio and don't mind a little extra humidity, then misting systems are the perfect solution for you. In areas of the southwest, the heat index can get so high that it is really a deterrent from going outdoors.

There is nothing worse than feeling stuck inside when you could be enjoying your patio or gazebo if it weren't for those triple digit temperatures. Well, you wouldn't have to suffer through that kind of heat if you had installed a misting system for your home or patio. You already know how the temperature on your covered patio is less than the direct sun, but you might be amazed by how much cooler it could be.

If you could achieve a drop in temperature of between 25-35 degrees, would you be interested? Yes, that is actually how much of a change a mist system can create. There are a few factors that affect that number, but it is possible.

One thing that will make that number vary is the humidity in your area. Mist systems work best in areas where the humidity is low. This is why they are popular in areas of the west and southwest desert regions, where humidity may be in the teens or even single digits during certain parts of the early summer months.

Misting systems work by creating very small droplets of water that cool the air and your body as they evaporate. This is why they work best in climates with little humidity. Consider what happens in a greenhouse. If the water vapor is kept locked inside, the air becomes very humid and the temperature can rise as well. You will find that your mist system feels best when there is a slight breeze or is drier outside.

The process whereby the water in the misting system lines is converted to droplets is called atomization. These atomized water droplets can be as small as 5 microns in diameter. This very small size is what allows them to evaporate and do the cooling. Now, you can achieve even greater cooling effect and efficiency if you also install a high pressure pump. This causes the pressure in your lines to increase up to 1,000 psi. This increased pressure actually allows your misting systems nozzles to atomize the water into ever smaller droplets. Smaller droplets equals quicker evaporation and better cooling effect.

One last point to consider is installing your patio mist system. For some models, you can simply buy them off the shelf at your local home improvement warehouse and put them up in about 4-6 hours time. If you need help or would like a professional to do the work right, expect to pay about 30% more. All in all, it is a matter of preference. If you have a smaller size patio or space you are going to be working with a professional might not be necessary.

Best How to Admire Your Koi in the Pond

Having made a provisional choice of pond position, consider where you will stand to view the koi. To get the best view, there should not be too many reflections on the water surface. Reflections can cause other problems, too, when carrying out maintenance or trying to net a fish for treatment, looking into bright light can be difficult.

You can cause a great deal of unnecessary damage to other fish while trying to catch a particular koi. Choosing a viewing area on the sunny side of the pond will mean standing with your back to the sun, but it will make looking at the pond much easier.

You can test for possible problems caused by reflections by standing a container of water on the spot where the pond will be and observing the results. If an existing pond suffers from reflections, or it is impossible to design a new pond in any other location, then consider placing a screen of trees or a fence behind the pond to produce a large dark reflection against which the koi will stand out.

A modern pond required a protected electricity supply, with sufficient capacity to run circulation pumps, air pumps, electric water heaters, vacuum pumps, ultra violet clarifiers and lights, etc.

It must be laid to the site of a suitable dry service chamber, often known as a pump house. Terminate the supply in the pump house with a residual current circuit breaker and suitable fuse box from which to wire all the necessary equipment.

This will isolate the pond system should a problem arise. Always consult a qualified electrician for details of local codes and regulations, and seek installation advice if you are in any doubt.

You may decide to use electricity to power a swimming pool heater. This may not be as cheap to run as a gas broiler, but can be used effectively during the winter months to prevent the temperature falling below about 12 Celsius. At this temperature, the fishes immune system is ticking over, they are feeding lightly and therefore in good health.

Beautiful A Wall Bracketted Electrical Fireplace A Deserving Choice

A wall mount electric fireplace is an easy way to get the warmth and attractive accent a traditional fireplace would provide, but without the maintenance and other hassles that they come with. This type can also easily be mounted anywhere in the home, even in crowded or stuffy rooms, and still have space available for other things. This is a great incentive for anyone who wants a fireplace, but simply does not have the room to be able to have a chimney built.

Besides the pluses mentioned above, a wall mount electric fireplace is also much cheaper to install than a wood-burning fireplace. It only needs to be mounted and plugged in -- that's all. The heat that the unit gives off is controlled by the user. This is much easier than the log alternative, which requires a huge amount of work to be installed: walls torn out, the chimney to be laid, part of the roof taken up. To some getting a log fireplace installed may not be worth the hassle it takes to get it installed.

Mostly due to the installation costs, a traditional model of fireplace is generally much more expensive than an electric model. Wall mounted electric models are especially cheaper as they are generally smaller than a floor-based unit. It is even possible to get a wall mount electric fireplace unit that is as small as a medium-sized picture frame, which is even cheaper.

One of these models also functions as a mini-heater. As opposed to having to cut, load, and ignite logs like you would with a traditional fireplace, all that needs to be done is switch the unit on and choose the temperature. This is a great feature for any homes that do not want to put in a lot of money on heating during the winter, as electric fireplaces take up very little heat to function and heat a medium-sized room.

If you have never gazed upon an electric fireplace, then you may not know that they look like 100% real traditional models. When on, it looks like there are logs inside and they are on fire like they would in real fireplaces. If you want that fireplace feel but not the fireplace heat in the hotter seasons, most models also allow you to turn on the display without turning on the heat. So unlike log models, you can get that warm glow even if it is hot outside.

There are a good amount of benefits to electric fireplace models to take into consideration if you are considering getting a fireplace but are not sure about it. A wall mount electric fireplace also offers that same trademark feel, without the space hogging that is normally needed to have one set up.

The Fireplace inserts will certainly adjust inefficient fireplaces directly onto wood stoves

Wood burning fireplace inserts are designed to transform inefficient fireplaces into wood stoves, which can get many BTUs of heat out of a load of wood. Using the existing fireplace means that even houses with no room for a free-standing wood stove may be heated with wood.

When installing a free-standing wood stove, the building code regulations must be followed, with fireproof shielding on floors and walls and a regulated amount of air space and clearance; consequently the stove protrudes into the living space. A stove's hot surfaces may be dangerous for children, and some people dislike the look of stovepipes running to a vent in the wall.

Actually, a fireplace can be a negative in heating a house, since more heat may be lost up the chimney than is sent out into the room, and heat from the room is lost while the fire is beginning to burn and as it is dying down to smoldering ashes. Dampers that close the chimney to prevent this hot air rising and escaping to the great outdoors cannot be closed while ashes are still smoking.

Some 'inserts' are simply glass doors that can be shut to keep indoor heat from escaping even though the damper is still open. The best way to use them to close off the fire at the end of the evening, so people can go to bed and wait to shut the damper in the morning when the fire is completely out. Keeping the doors shut while the fire is burning brightly, of course, means that the beauty of flames can be seen but all heat is trapped in the fireplace until it is lost through the chimney.

For this reason, an insert must fit the room or area it will heat and the kind of wood burning the family does. A lightweight, less airtight insert may be best for a family room which will only be heated with wood as a supplement to the central heating on week-ends or in the evenings, perhaps. A heavier, truly air tight stove that will burn for eight hours or more on one load of wood may be needed if the main heat in the house is to be provided by the insert.

An insert must be treated like a stove, in that the wood inside must be lit and allowed to burn for a while to release the creosote that it contains. This creosote will burn if the fire is hot; otherwise it will evaporate and coat the surfaces of glass doors, the inner chamber, and the walls of the chimney. The danger of unburned creosote deposits is that, when the fire does get hot, these deposits may ignite and cause a chimney fire. Creosote is liquid at times, and a stove that is not getting enough air for proper combustion may even leak the black tarry substance out of the front onto the hearth and near by carpets.

When evaluating wood burning fireplace inserts, homeowners should get one only as big as they need for the space to be heated. The largest and most airtight insert may not be the best, if what is needed is short-term fires in the evening rather than whole house heating with wood.

Nice How to Build a Fountain From Three Garden Pots

Although the idea of using pots as garden fountains is not a new idea, I came across a way of building them that I hadn't seen before and would like to share that with you. The idea is simple. First you will have to choose the pots you will use for your fountain. You need a basin, a base and the pot you will use as the fountain. Choose the shape of the main fountain not only for its appearance but also how it will function. Smooth pots with very little taper on the bottom will be quieter as the water will cling to sides as it falls. Some pots have ridges or rings that will cause the water to fall off producing more sound.

You start with a large sized terracotta or stone bowl as your foundation. This will be the basin pot where the overflowing water will fall. Drill a hole out of the bottom center of the bowl if there isn't one already. Now take the cord from your pump and run it through the hole. For larger holes, cover with duct tape and fill with Bondo. Smaller holes can be filled in with silicon. When that has dried, coat the inside with a water sealant. Now you should be ready to place the basin in your desired location. Although not crucial, try to make the basin as level as possible.

The base pot is a pot that is turned upside down and houses the pump. Choose a pot that has a base diameter the same as the base diameter of the main fountain pot. Soak the pot overnight in water. This helps make it easier to cut notches around the top rim of the pot. These notches allow water to come in that gets pumped up through the fountain tube.

Cut a piece of tubing about a foot longer than the height of the fountain pot. Attach this to the pump. Now feed the base pot down over the tube through the hole in the bottom of the pot. Seal the gap around the tube with more silicon. Now you should have your basin with an upside down pot sitting in the middle of it with a pump inside and the tube sticking out the top of the base pot.

Now take your fountain pot and test fit it by feeding it down over the tube and placing it on top of the base pot. If everything looks good (it should be plumb and level with the tube sticking out the top higher than the height of the pot) you can take off the fountain pot and run two thick beads of silicon around the top of the base pot. Run one bead towards the outside to help hold the pots together and one on the inside to keep water from running in between the two pots.

Once everything has dried, fill with water and test. Now you will have to adjust the height of the tubing to get the desired effect you are looking for. Finish by filling in the basin with rocks.

Amazing Tips On Halo: Reach Rumble Pit

When playing FFA games and you don't have a team who is there to help you, the most important thing that you need to do is to become aware of the enemies near you all the time. This is due to a very obvious reason that no one is there to tell you about the location of the enemies near you.

One of the best tips that I ever heard for FFA games is that you should play as an observer. By becoming an observer, you will be able to locate the weakest players and take them down first. Medium range weapons like DMR will help you effectively steal kills from other players. The strategy that I often do is to look for two players who are engaged with each other and wait for the right time to strike –easy double kill.

Dying is not a big deal for FFA games, but always remember that dying has a respawn time and you don't want to waste a lot of time just to respawn. You should not worry about your K/D unlike your TS. In you are playing FFA, you always need to be in action, and this will include you dying.

The best thing that you can do to minimize attacks on you is to stay on the edges of the map, which may not be applicable to some. This will prevent people from attacking you from behind, and will allow you to see all the enemies who are running towards you. This will allow you to focus on fewer sides of the map, while forgetting about the attacks that will come from behind you.

These are some of the tips for Halo: Reach that I can share. Just keep these things in mind, and soon enough you will become one of the best players of the game.

Best Feng Shui and Water Fountains

Feng Shui as we all know is the ancient Chinese art that places importance on the placement of objects in the right place, to facilitate mental and physical well being. This ancient art bases its theory on the five elements of nature, fire, earth, water, wood, and metal. A harmonious lifestyle is a result of the presence of these elements in the appropriate place and in the appropriate proportion.

The art primarily focuses on 'chi' or energy. A balance of this 'chi' brings harmony around you and thus helps you in everything, right from strengthening relationships to even encouraging prosperity. Water as earlier said, is one of the five main elements in Feng Shui. Water can be in the form of a pond, water fountains etc. These also can be used to fill the imbalances in the construction of a room. Feng Shui believes that the flow of water inside the house brings money and prosperity to your home.

Water fountains, according to Feng Shui, help to refresh and circulate Chi. For those looking for help to find the right fountains, with Feng Shui in mind can either refer to an expert for help or can also refer the internet, where there are several websites that focus on feng shui fountains.

The sound of water gently cascading down the stream, manages to calm frayed nerves, thus pushing negativity aside.

When shopping for indoor fountains, with Feng Shui in mind, remember to find one that balances out the energy in the room. For example a water fountain with cool colors can balance out the warm colors of your room. A slate water fountain can even out the ceramic tiles in your bathroom. A room with too many straight lines could do with a water fountain, for their curvy lines. Rather than the décor, it's important to pay attention to ones that would harmonize the energy inside the house.

There are a number of options for those looking for feng shui fountains based on the principle. You could either choose from indoor fountains that are made from materials like bamboo, ceramic, stainless steel, and even glass. There are also water fountains that incorporate all the five elements within them. You could also opt for flower vases that tie the elements and double up as a fountain. Choices for those looking for the perfect fountain are aplenty. If you like to shop online you will find the most selection as stores simply can not carry all of the options that are out there.

Modern Getting To Know Montmorillonite Clay In Ponds

Among all the aspects that make up a pond, the water is the one that needs most of your caring attention. It is considered as the main source of life of everything in the pond. Come to think of it, will the pond be as it is without water?

In recent times, the water that is being used to fill up water systems like lakes and ponds come from water companies. These companies, as a part of their services to people, do some treatments to the water making it suitable for human consumption and thus eliminating minerals and trace elements that a certain water system requires. Good thing there are a few ways in order to replace the lost trace elements in order to meet the need of a pond or a lake. One of which is the use of Montmorillonite clay. Perhaps youve heard of this type of clay as an agent for better digestion in humans and animals. But aside from this benefit, Montmorillonite clay also poses advantages to ponds.
A few of the minerals and trace elements that Montmorillonite clay produces includes calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and iron which are all needed in a pond. Once introduced in the pond water, Montmorillonite clay releases these minerals that feed the beneficial bacteria present in the bio filter.

As mentioned earlier, Montmorillonite clay is a type of clay that promotes good digestion to humans and animals. Therefore if this clay is consumed by the fish in the pond, there will be less toxic wastes that will be excreted by these pond fish. It is widely known in the pond keeping field that fish wastes aid the rapid growth of harmful algae in the pond. Aside from the promotion of good digestive system in fish health, Montmorillonite clay can also cause the skin of the fish, particularly koi, to stand out and be clearly seen in the water.

It is unavoidable to have chemical residues in the pond especially if it is applied regularly. The chemicals from algaecides, metals and free radicals that enter the pond can have toxic remains in the water system. That is another reason why you should go for Montmorillonite clay. Not only the fish but also the plants will surely benefit of the minerals and trace elements in the pond water be restored.
Montmorillonite clay naturally contains absorbable calcium which stays electrically active and negatively charged as the clay is introduced in the pond. The toxic wastes in the water which are positively charged will then be bonded up with the negatively charged ions in the calcium of the montmorillonite clay. These toxins will be stuck in the clay particles allowing them to be discharged through the pond filter.

Theres no need to be anxious as to how you will avoid the fish from nibbling the clay particles once introduced in the pond. Keep in mind that montmorillonite clay promotes good digestion therefore if the fish consequently gnaw the clay particles, you should be happier.

Inspirational How to Build a Brick Outdoor Fireplace

Building a brick outdoor fireplace is a huge undertaking, but well worth it. A brick fireplace will make any yard pop. It adds curb appeal and can increase the value of your home. So although building it is a pretty involved project it's one that pays for itself in the long run. Assuming you have some basic masonry know how here's how to build a brick outdoor fireplace.

The first thing you need is a piece of paper. You'll need the dimensions for your new outdoor fireplace so you can order the brick. Once you've got it sketched out call up your local building center and they'll be able to tell you how many bricks you need.

Pick a spot in your backyard where there isn't a chance of a stray spark starting a fire - avoid placing under trees, awnings and the like.

Found just the right spot? Great! Grab your shovel and get ready to dig.

You'll need to remove all the grass from the base of your outdoor fireplace.

Once you've removed the grass you need to compact the loose layer of soil. You can either use a hand compactor or rent a powered one for a few dollars a day.

So you're sitting there looking at a big ugly barren spot in the yard by this point. Don't get discouraged!

Have the bricks delivered as close to your work site as possible. Pushing carts full of bricks around all day isn't going to get the fireplace built any faster.

Before you start throwing bricks on the ground make sure you're set with a masonry saw, a trowel and mortar.

Lay a bottom layer of bricks on top of the compacted soil. Be sure to use the trowel and mortar in between each brick. This will give you a nice sturdy starting point for the rest of the brick fireplace.

Let the mortar cure overnight

Start stacking bricks along the edge of the base. What you're shooting for here is a layer 4 bricks high. Be sure to cut/stagger the bricks from row to row always applying a thin layer of mortar between rows.

By now it should start looking like an outdoor brick fireplace.

Keeping laying, staggering, and mortaring those bricks along the sides and back of the fireplace.

Pretty soon you'll have 3 walls about 3 and a half feet high. It's time to build the roof.
Cut a piece of sheet metal sized to the fireplace walls. Cut a small notch slightly larger than 1 brick in the back of the sheet metal.

Place the metal across the 3 walls of your fireplace with the notch facing the back.

Put down another layer of bricks across the top of the sheet metal without covering the notch.

The chimney is the trickiest part.

You'll need to cut the bricks to size to stack them around the notch.

The chimney doesn't need to be that high, just tall enough to let the whole fireplace draft properly.

That does it! It took some time and backbreaking effort but you can now brag to the neighbors that you know how to build a brick outdoor fireplace.

Beautiful Koi Disease Is Treatable - Protect Your Pond

Having fish or any type of animal has its up side and down side. Koi disease is very common but the good news is that it's very treatable. Depending on which disease they have you will have to treat it accordingly. If you do not you will infect other koi and thus have a large scale problem on your hands. There are several koi diseases that can affect your fish; we will look at a few of the most common ones and how to treat them effectively.

Dropsy is not so much a koi disease but more of a symptom of something else. The koi will become bloated or full of fluid and their scales will perk up and make them look like a pine cone. Their eyes will also bug out, the fluid that fills them up inside cannot be expelled. If the koi swells too fast it can cause internal bleeding and if it swells slowly then it will become infected with parasites. Dropsy is very contagious; if you suspect this koi disease you should separate the fish immediately and treat them with an anti bacterial remedy.

Finrot is easily recognizable because the fin on your koi will look like it was chewed or damaged. There may be discoloration too. Ulcers usually accompany finrot and that can cause kidney damage and death if you don't treat it quickly. The bacteria in finrot can infect other fish through their gills. You should add some salt at a small rate or use an anti bacterial medicine. If you do add salt make sure the mixture is 3gm per litre.

Trichodina is a parasite that attacks the gills and skin tissue of koi. This koi disease lives mostly in warm water and you can tell if your koi is infected by their lethargic rubbing. The parasite can only be seen under a microscope and the circular cilia eat away at the tissue making your koi sicker by the day. The only way to treat trichodina is with potassium permanganate. This is a mixture of salt and ions will dissolve the cilia.

Anchor worm is a koi disease that you can actually see. This little worm will attach itself to the koi and usually under a scale but you can see them protruding because they can grow to up to 12 mm. The anchor worm will mate and the male will leave the body but the female will stay attached. They will inject bacteria and fungal infections grow from this little worm. They can be removed with tweezers but the koi must anesthetize, you can also make the anchor worm release by dabbing a cotton swab soaked in potassium permanganate on it. Treat your pond with paradex.

Fish lice are a common problem and deadly koi disease. The host will attach to the koi and inject their toxin. The koi will jump and try to get rid of this parasite. The damaged caused happens in their gills and treatment isn't found in stores. You will need to contact a dealer or vet to cure this koi disease.

Best of Thing You Should Know About Koi Pond Equipment

Did you select an equipment to put in your pond? It will help in its effective management. However, you need to address, for example, is letting tap water mature so that it becomes fit for the fish to live in. A brand new pond and the water contained therein needs to mature over a period of time. You can purchase a pond care kit to address this problem and overcome fish mortality. Remember that the products you purchase are harmless for all types of Koi and plants in the pond.

Filter and Pump Your Koi pond requires a specific type of filtration, as opposed to garden ponds which might have other types of ornamental fish. Koi are omnivorous fish and can be fed up to eight times a day during warmer days. They can consume up to 2% of their own body weight in food daily. Because of this, Koi produce great amounts of solid waste. They excrete ammonia via their urine and gills as they breathe. Koi were bred for their attractive external appearance; but, as a result of this selective breeding, they now have weakened immune systems and require much more care and attention for them to be kept healthy. Above all, they need top-quality water at all times for them to survive and thrive abundantly. For this reason, it is important to use the right type of filter that will handle the pond's water filtration needs.

A good filter must be able to remove as much solids from the water as possible. This is important for the following reasons:

•    Solids make the water turbid and, thus, it is difficult to clearly see your prized Koi.

•    Solids that were not removed by the mechanical filter can clog filter media and make the biological filtration stages ineffective.

Good mechanical filtration can only be achieved in combination with the correct pump flow rates and the right type of mechanical filters. The golden rule to follow is: the bigger the filter, the better it is in doing its function. A filter system cannot be too big, but it can certainly be too small.

Aerators Aeration is a must have for any pond environment, but more so for smaller ponds with lots of fish. It significantly reduces nitrogen levels, especially if combined with the introduction of dissolved oxygen that help decay the waste. Available aerators include fountains, waterfalls, diffused aeration, windmills and paddlewheels.

The Best The Causes of Excessive Arm Pit Sweating

Excessive arm pit sweating or hyperhidrosis is not a serious disease or disorder as such. However, it can be a symptom for some serious disorders such as heart attack and tuberculosis.

Why Excessive Arm Pit Sweating?
Most of the people perspire excessively when they do something that requires extreme physical activity, when they are under pressure, or when they are in a hot and humid environment. There is nothing wrong with this excessive sweating in such circumstances. In fact, it is a sign of healthy human beings. Many people are worried more about the foul smell associated with the sweat than the actual process of sweating. Most of the people are ready to accept the sweat minus the odor. It affects the social image and self-respect of a person in urban societies. Here are some of the reasons for the excessive arm pit sweating.

What Causes Arm Pit Sweating
You must be aware that some body parts are more prone to have a foul odor while sweating. Arm pits and genital area are the main sources of perspiration-related foul odor. One has to understand a bit of physiology to find out the reason behind this.

In our body, there are two kinds of sweat glands: eccrine glands and apocrine glands. Eccrine glands are more abundant and these glands run all over the body. They excrete sweat directly to the skin. The sweat excreted by eccrine gland is normally odorless as it is composed mainly of salt and water. Apocrine glands, on the other hand, concentrate on areas where there is large hair growth such as scalp, under arm, and genital area. The sweat they excrete is fattier. By itself, the sweat excreted by apocrine glands does not have a foul smell. However, bacteria present in arm pits and genital area decompose the fatty sweat liquid particles, which results in the foul odor.

As already mentioned, most people sweat overly, after a heavy workout, while addressing a large crowd or while attending an interview. However, some people tend to perspire uncontrollably without any apparent reason. While scientists agree that not all causes of this phenomenon have been conclusively proved, there are some common causes for it.

Conclusion
Excessive arm pit sweating can be caused by over intake of beverages such as coffee and alcohol. Not drinking sufficient water can also be a reason for uncontrolled sweating. As some people may have noticed, eating spicy and hot food can make people sweat excessively. The nature of perspiring can be a hereditary trait as well.
